Gwent

His name was Delmer Powys Plebus Gwent; a genius from the planet Zemo and
creator of the giant machine. "He outgrew me," the old man tells the Alphans.
"Now he is my master."

Koenig, Neman and Kara

Neman and Kara offer the Alphans the chance to leave Moonbase and live
aboard the Daria so that their children may share the Darian's new world.

A strange craft is sighted over the lunar
horizon shortly before Alpha's computer
malfunctions. A voice from the craft asks
permission to land, but makes it clear
that it has total control on the computer
system and it will not accept "No" for an
answer. Koenig agrees to the landing re-
quest and reluctantly accepts an invita-
tion for Bergman, Helena, and himself to
go out and greet their mysterious visitor.
They arrive via Moonbuggy and meet an old
man who calls himself "Companion." He
tells them that Gwent is in need of sup-
plies. When Koenig asks to see Gwent,
Companion informs him that the entire
spacecraft is Gwent. But Gwent needs more
than supplies, for Companion is dying and
a new one must be found. Soon, the old
man dies and Gwent delivers his ultimatum:
unless both the supplies and a new Com-
panion are given to him, he will destroy
Moonbase Alpha. Koenig finds himself with
little choice.

Companion/Gwent: LEO McKERN
Alpha answers a plea for help from the
colossal spaceship Daria. The craft is at
least fifty miles long and two miles wide!
Aboard, they discover the remains of the
once-great Darian civilization now in a
state of primeval barbarism. However, a
small group of Darians have escaped the
nuclear catastrophe that devestated most
of the ship. They explain to Koenig that
they have been in space for 900 years and
hope to reach the new planet they set out
to colonize in another 100 years. Kara
and Neman offer to take the Alphans on so
that their children's children may have a
home, but Bergman discovers that Kara
and her people are the same 14 true Darians
that survived the disaster hundreds of
years earlier. They keep alive through
transplant surgery and food recycled from
human bodies! Meanwhile, Helena, who has
been given to the barbarian's "god," a-
waits, sedated, in the recycling plant to
become human fodder! This is the fate that
awaits them all.
