The Moon is approaching a possibly habitable planet. Computer however, has no
information on the planet, despite several hours of data gathering. The Alphans
are brought down to the surface through the actions of the Guardian, a computer
created by the Pirians to serve their every need. Everyone on Alpha, except
Commander Koenig, thinks Piri is the ideal place for the Alphans to colonize;
Koenig wants to know what happened to the Pirians.
The entire world of Piri is lifeless, and held in stasis by the Guardian. The
only area not barren is the enclave created by the Guardian, which can be
seen in the distance.

the unusual structures seen -- white spheres on metallic stalks. The Alphan's
initial survey showed these to be lifeless, and their function remained
unknown.
