THE A.B. CHRYSALIS

Compare with ITC summary. The episode is titled "The AB Chrysalis", not "The A.B. Chrysalis" (as on the sleeve) or "Chrysalis A-B-C" (as on the disc label).

A strange planet surrounded by concentric rings of moons is sending violent energy beams out into space. This is the protective shield of one of the most deadly creatures in the universe... and Moonbase Alpha is heading for a collision course!

A pinpoint of intense light slowly expands towards the moon. As Commander John Koenig, Dr. Helena Russell, Maya and Tony react, they know that nothing can stop this immense energy wave looming towards them. The energy wave hits Alpha, engulfing it in a searing, roaring cloud of dust. Inside the base the noise is intense; buildings shake, lights flicker and fail and piles of lunar dust are driven up like snow drifts around the base.

For a week, the moon has been traveling towards a series of spacial explosions detonated at twelve hour intervals. Each succeeding shockwave has been more devastating and violent than the other. Koenig knows the next explosion will be the worst for Alpha and he decides to investigate the source.

With Alan Carter and Maya, Koenig heads for a strange planet surrounded by concentric rings of ominous moons. Eagle One touches down on the closest moon and as Carter and Koenig move to investigate, great forked tongues of static electricity arc from hundreds of huge metallic spheres on the surface sending bolts of lightning to the other moons and deep into space. Eagle One just manages to escape and move inward toward the planet.

On touchdown with the planet, huge earthquakes swallow the Eagle down into the center of the planet where Maya, Alan and John come face to face with an army of small metal spheres drifting about like a slow motion ballet. They are protectors of a race of chlorine- breathing monsters. These monsters are in a chrysalis stage of development waiting for rebirth. While they sleep the protectors are using explosive force fields as defense.

The Alphans must act fast - the twelve hour detonation is dose at hand and Moonbase Alpha is in great danger. Koenig has no choice but to fire his laser at the sleeping giants.

The creatures come to life - horrible, ugly, gruesome monsters - the future of Alpha and the universe now depends on the outcome of this final battle!

CATACOMBS OF THE MOON

Compare with ITC summary.. The summary describes an ending that is completely different to the show: the aliens transport Osgood and his wife out into the universe to be reborn into cosmic beings that could save or destroy the entire moon.

One man's obsession with the future leads to a rare and startling discovery as the moon hurtles into a blazing space inferno!

Patrick Osgood, a space-age miner, is deep underneath Moonbase Alpha in a complex of tunnels and caverns. Osgood and his excavation team are searching for minerals and are planting a series of charges. Suddenly the darkness erupts into a searing white light. First one explosion then another advance on Osgood coming closer in a chain reaction. Osgood frantically throws his satchel of explosives as far as he can just before he is caught up in a massive blast. He is lifted and thrown down in a shower of dirt and rock. Then, as in a Dali painting, the moonscape turns stark, strange and sinister. A brass fourposter bed with a white solid canopy stands on the moon's surface in the foreground. Star burst of fire in a black sky... burning chunks of meteorites hurtle down and burn on the bleak moonscape... buildings burst into flame...

Osgood is screaming frantically as he sees his wife in a deep delirium, suffering from an incurable disease...

Then as the vision vanishes, Osgood gains his bearings and returns to reality. Osgood is certain he has seen the future. He now believes that Moonbase Alpha will be destroyed. Then, in Main Mission, Maya begins to detect a rise in heat level all around the base. Osgood's wife becomes mysteriously ill... and the temperatures keep rising.

Tony Verdeschi begins an extremely dangerous job of transferring "Hypernitro" to a cooler undergound location... and the temperatures are now unbearably high.

Then Osgood goes completely mad as he seemingly runs through a blaze of fire. In his tightly clenched fist is a firing mechanism and around his waist, 30 pounds of Hypernitro.

Out in space Eagle One with Commander John Koenig at the controls sweeps into a gigantic yellow-red fire storm and Koenig finally comes face to face with the aliens who created this hell in space.

But the drama on Alpha increases as Osgood prepares to blow himself up in order to save Alpha. Has he really been hallucinating? Then the biggest surprise of all... the aliens transport Osgood and his wife out into the universe to be reborn into cosmic beings that could save or destroy the entire moon.
