Script To Screen: The Last Sunset

Script To Screen

Often there are "pick-up" shots which are filmed separately from the main block of filming. They may be close-ups, brief reaction shots, or scenes with secondary characters. A second unit will film these scenes, at the same time as the main unit films another episode. On Wednesday 21st August, several weeks after the main unit had finished filming Last Sunset, the second unit filmed additional scenes for the episode.

The Last Sunset

The first scenes were shots outside the Moonbase airlock, filmed on the studio lot (actually the car park), the first exterior shots of the production. Special effects provided rain. The actors were wet and cold on a chilly British August day.

The Last Sunset

Other scenes were brief, filmed on stage H (the main unit was filming Voyager's Return on stages L and M). Shots included Alphans in a corridor as it fills with gas (a dry ice machine provided mist), the shot of Paul finding and eating the manna (a sponge and "edible manna" was provided), and some close-ups of Helena's hand grasping the hypo-gun during the fight, and Bergman's hands pointing at the lunar maps (doubles were used, wearing their rings).
