KHJ-TV (Channel 9) premiered Breakaway on Saturday 23 August 1975 7pm, announced in a full page ad in the Los Angeles Times declaring "World Television Premiere" (although it was after the Australia premiere). The Saturday 7pm timeslot was identical to KRON in San Francisco, and so were the first twelve episodes, but afterwards the broadcast order diverged, with KHJ showing more reruns. A January 9, 1976 Los Angeles Times article quotes ratings (a 9.4 average, " a respectable if not spectacular score") for the first eight episodes. Then there were 5 weeks in a row of reruns, during which the ratings dropped to a "dismal" 4.0.
