Koenig enters from his office, closing the office doors again behind him.
SANDRA: "How is Paul, Commander?"
KOENIG: "Well, he's not too bad. A couple of fractured ribs, broken ankle. Doctor Russell says he'll be out for a few days. But he'll be okay. Nothing serious. Winters. Do you think you can fill that chair for a while?"
WINTERS: "Yes, sir."
KOENIG: "Separate the men from the boys."
WINTERS: "I won't let you down, sir."
KOENIG: "Alright, any problems, check with Carter. I'll be in my quarters."
WINTERS: "Goodnight, Commander."
2.INT. CORRIDOR
Koenig walks past Alphans.
KOENIG: "Goodnight."
GIRL: "Good morning, Commander."
Koenig open a door.
3.INT. MAIN MISSION
All stare at the Big Screen.
SANDRA: "Tell me you've seen something like that before."
DAVID: "No." ((takes readout)) "Nor has computer."
4.INT. LIVING QUARTERS
Koenig is sitting, his face buried in his hands. Winters appears on the comms post.
WINTERS (on screen): "Main Mission calling Commander Koenig."
3.INT. MAIN MISSION
WINTERS: "Main Mission calling Commander Koenig."
4.INT. LIVING QUARTERS
KOENIG: "Winters. This better be more than urgent."
WINTERS: "I think it is, sir."
5.INT. MAIN MISSION
Helena, Victor, Koenig & Alan stand behind Winters, watching the screen.
KOENIG (to Sandra): "Magnification."
-Big Screen (SFX): Gwent.
-Main Mission:
DAVID: "By all that's scientific, if that's a spacecraft..."
VICTOR: "It defies every known law of aerospace propulsion."
KOENIG: "Like the bumble bee which shouldn't fly."
-Big Screen (SFX): Gwent (border not seen)
VICTOR (VO): "But does."
KOENIG (VO): "Kano. Let's see what computer has to say about it."
-Main Mission:
DAVID: "Computer. I want detailed information about the space object." ((no response)) "Anything."
COMPUTER (VO): "I have nothing to say on that subject."
DAVID: "Nothing, Commander. I can't explain it."
COMPUTER (VO): "My information is privileged."
GWENT (VO): "Good day, dear friends. I wouldn't intrude, but I rather need your immediate help."
SANDRA: "We've lost visual, Commander."
DAVID: "He's not reaching us by radio waves. Computer's scrambled."
WINTERS: "I'm trying all channels."
GWENT (VO): "Not to worry." ((-screen: static)) "Our communication is excellent. In a moment, even with your " ((-them)) " restricted sight, you will see me."
KOENIG: "Friendly?"
VICTOR: "Better ask louder."
HELENA: "Suppose we get the wrong answer?"
KOENIG: "Kano, ask computer if that thing is armed."
COMPUTER (VO): "I am otherwise occupied."
-Big Screen (SFX): Gwent appears through static
GWENT (VO): "Do grant permission to land on your territory, Commander."
-Main Mission:
KOENIG: "For what reason?"
-Big Screen (SFX): Gwent (no border seen)
GWENT (VO): "I need your help. Isn't that reason enough?"
KOENIG (VO): "Possibly."
-Main Mission:
VICTOR: "Sounds peaceful."
HELENA: "I wonder what kind of people.."
ALAN: "That thing's hostile."
WINTERS: "And asks for help?"
ALAN: "Huh, it's clever."
WINTERS: "Show some compassion, Alan."
ALAN: "Survival first, brotherhood after."
GWENT (VO): "Excuse me."
-Big Screen (SFX): Gwent (border not seen)
GWENT (VO): "I don't wish to hurry your democratic discussion, but I have an emergency."
-Main Mission:
ALAN: "And we have our emergency.."
GWENT (VO): "But mine is greater than your fear."
KOENIG: "Yes. Permission to land."
GWENT (VO): "I am obliged."
KOENIG: "Away from our base."
GWENT (VO): "Of course."
6.EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent flies low over lunar surface.
GWENT (VO): "One should be careful with strangers."
KOENIG (VO): "Hold it!"
7.INT. MAIN MISSION
KOENIG: "I gave permission to land, not to approach."
-Big Screen (SFX): Gwent over surface.
GWENT (VO): "Can't you see, Commander? My intentions are pacific."
KOENIG (VO): "With respect, no."
GWENT (VO): "I only require your assistance."
-Main Mission:
KOENIG: "Alan, send out two Eagles, fully armed. They'll fire only on my instructions."
GWENT (VO): "I shouldn't do that if I were you."
KOENIG: "Why?"
GWENT (VO): "Because I won't let you."
KOENIG: "Alan, do as I say."
ALAN: "Commander, I'm not getting through."
GWENT (VO): "Your intercommunication system will function when I want it too."
8.EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent settles.
GWENT (VO): "Now, Commander. Shall we be reasonable?"
9.INT. MAIN MISSION
KOENIG: "If you come in peace."
GWENT (VO): "If? My word is my bond!"
KOENIG: "Then I'm prepared to receive a small delegation. Unarmed, of course."
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
GWENT (VO): "No. I shall welcome a small but influential delegation. Consisting of "

GWENT (VO): " Doctor Helena Russell...Professor Victor Bergman..and yourself, Commander John Koenig. All armed, of course."
HELENA: "Are we going?"
KOENIG: "Do we have any choice?"

GWENT (VO): "I'm delighted, Commander."

Moonbuggy leaves Moonbase buildings.
Moonbuggy drives to Gwent (sc 12)
Moonbuggy drives up a ramp (sc 12)
GWENT (VO): "Greetings, Alphans."
A vertical tube: A green unit rises inside it (sc 13)
GWENT (VO): "You will now be delivered to my control room."
14.INT. MAIN MISSION
WINTERS: "We've no contact. Nothing."
SANDRA: "No visual."
DAVID: "No computer, again."
ALAN: "I'm taking those Eagles up."
WINTERS: "You heard the threat."
ALAN: "Yep. That's why I'm carrying out the Commander's original orders."
GWENT (VO): "Welcome aboard, Alpha party. Just let yourselves go."
Alan leaves.
16.INT. ANTECHAMBER
GWENT (VO): "It's quite safe to come out now."
Koenig, Helena & Victor enter the hall.
GWENT (VO): "Do come in that we may be well met." ((door shuts behind them))
VICTOR: "Said the spider to the fly."
GWENT (VO): "Children's stories are brutal, Professor. But you have nothing to fear."
VICTOR: "Except fear itself."
GWENT (VO): "Yes. The wise man knows when to be afraid."
16.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
They enter. A spotlight strikes Koenig's face & descends to the comlock on his belt. It crosses to Victor's face, then to his comlock, before whipping across to Helena's belt & rising to her face. Then it is gone.
They see a area to the side that is curtained off. They walk to it & behind it, to see an ancient man lying on a couch. He moves, weakly struggling to get up. Helena moves to help him.
COMPANION: "You are very kind. But I have yet to need assistance." ((stands)) "I regret not welcoming you on your arrival. I rest only when I must. Now, how can I help you?"
KOENIG: "It's more a question of how we can help you. You summoned us."
COMPANION: "I summoned..?"
KOENIG: "For help."
HELENA: "I'm Doctor Helena Russell, this is Commander John Koenig, Professor Victor Bergman."
COMPANION: "I am Companion."
Companion sits at a table. Koenig & Helena sit by him, while Victor remains standing.
KOENIG: "Perhaps if you could send for the others, they could explain."
COMPANION: "I know why you're here, Commander." ((addresses ceiling)) "You think I don't know what you're doing? Why you're silent, Gwent? Are you ashamed of your actions, Gwent? Then I'll speak for you." ((to Koenig)) "Devious. He leaves me to deal with his lesser matters."
VICTOR: "Aah...where is Gwent?"
COMPANION: "His purpose in coming here is clearly two fold. I am well aware of the first and can...surmise the second. So I shall speak only what I know."
KOENIG: "Thank you, sir."
COMPANION: "From time to time, we must interrupt our endless journey to obtain certain items necessary to our continued well being.." ((a large readout clatters from a wall; Koenig takes it)) "Aah! Now you take an interest. When you want something." ((Koenig hands it to Victor)) "I suppose he has issued a long list of his requirements?"
KOENIG: "Some list. Victor?"
VICTOR: "Ah, well, we, um, we have most of the basics."
GWENT (VO): "I have consulted your computer. You have everything I need."
COMPANION: "As I said, devious. Why make me explain and then interfere?"
GWENT (VO): "You were handling things so badly I had to intervene."
COMPANION: "Badly? Then I withdraw. You can tell him whatever you want!"
GWENT (VO): "You presume too much on our relationship, Companion."
COMPANION: "I'm glad to hear I can."
GWENT (VO): "Well, now, Commander Koenig. Can I count on your cooperation?"
KOENIG: "We'll do our best. If in fact we can spare all that."
GWENT (VO): "I've already told you."
KOENIG: "Thank you, but I'd like to hear it from our computer."
GWENT (VO): "Oh, then do so. By all means, let us go through channels."
COMPANION: "You're wasting your time, you know. He controls your computer, it will say whatever he wants it to say."
EXT. MOONBASE ALPHA (SFX)
Gwent & base.
GWENT (VO): "You may speak to your computer, "
Alpha buildings.
GWENT (VO): " you may speak to your staff. Ask your questions."
17.INT. MAIN MISSION
GWENT (VO): "Go on. You dispute my word of honour?"
DAVID (sits at his desk): "Faith, hope and.."
COMPUTER (VO): "Gwent's order has been relayed to supply department."
18.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
COMPUTER (VO): "And await shipment on Dock Four."
KOENIG (taking comlock): "Kano, can you hear me?"
DAVID (VO): "Yes, Commander."
KOENIG: "When was this order given?"
COMPUTER (VO): "Seven Eleven Hours."
GWENT (VO): "Twenty three minutes ago, Commander."
KOENIG: "You presume too much, Gwent."
GWENT (VO; laugh): "You are a commander!"
KOENIG: "I demand to see you, Gwent!"
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent.
GWENT (VO; belly laugh): "You do!"
20.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
COMPANION: "Everything is Gwent."
KOENIG: "Gwent is.. this.. machinery?"
GWENT (VO): "Machine! Call me a machine!"
KOENIG: "Well, if you're not a machine show yourself!" ((to Companion)) "You control this machine?"
COMPANION: "He is not entirely self sufficient..almost."
VICTOR: "But you do have ultimate control?"
COMPANION: "Over Gwent? No, no. Would that I could, some of the time."
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
GWENT (VO): "Control me?" ((rolls angrily)) "Control me?"
22.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
COMPANION: "I really would do as he says."
KOENIG: "But surely you must control this apparatus?"
COMPANION: "Oh, please. Please, don't anger him. Please. Call him.. Gwent.."
Companion collapses. The Alphans hurry to him.
HELENA: "Now don't speak. I can help you."
GWENT (VO): "Companion. If you're not dead, then speak!"
COMPANION: "All you care about... " ((gives up, weakly))
HELENA: "He's extremely sick."
COMPANION: "No, no. I'm fit. These little attacks come and go; a mere discomfort."
GWENT (VO): "Are you certain, dear friend?"
COMPANION (as they help him stand): "Not to worry about my capabilities. Send for your supplies so we can be on our way. Do it quickly, if you please."
KOENIG (goes to door): "Alright. I'll issue the order the moment we're back on Alpha."
GWENT (VO): "No! From here!"
KOENIG: "This time you have my word."
GWENT (VO): "I believe only in my honour. Issue that order!"
COMPANION: "Please. Accommodate him. He always has his way."
GWENT (VO): "Always."
KOENIG: "You will get your supplies when we are back on Alpha."
COMPANION: "No, Commander, no. None of us here, not you, not I, can stand up to him."
KOENIG: "Haven't you any.. influence?"
COMPANION: "Gwent is my master. I have always been his Companion. I have grown old in his service. Companions die but Gwent goes on. Forever. Nothing can stop him. Forget your insuperable pride. Give him what he wants and then go. While you still can."
HELENA: "Gwent. Your Companion is dying. I do not have the medical equipment here. If I could get him back to Alpha.."
GWENT (VO): "Enough. Do what I say."
KOENIG: "No!"
GWENT (VO): "I can blast your base from the Universe!"
23.EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Rolls ominously forward.
INT. MAIN MISSION
The staff watch the screen.
-Big Screen (SFX): Gwent approaching.
25.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
KOENIG (takes comlock): "Winters. Immediate launch. Attack to disable."
EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Eagles.
ALAN (VO): "We're ready and waiting, Commander."
INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION
ALAN: "We're on our way." ((he closes his visor))
26.EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Eagles bank into a descent.
INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION
Alan.
26.EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Eagles descending.
CU Eagle firing laser.
27.EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Laser strikes one of Gwent's spokes, causing an explosion.

GWENT (VO): "Measure for measure."

Gwent fires a red beam.

Launch pad explodes.

The Alphans watch.
A screen shows the explosion of the launch pad.
EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Eagle swoops.
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Explosion on Gwent.
INT. MAIN CHAMBER
They watch.
The screen shows the Eagles flying away.
29.EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent fires beam.
The two Eagles fly over a crater wall: it explodes.
30.INT. MAIN MISSION
WINTERS: "Stand by Rescue Units!"
31.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
Companion falls off his chair.
GWENT (VO): "Truce?"
The screen shows the flares dying from the crater wall.
KOENIG (taking comlock): "Cease fire."
HELENA (as they put him back on the chair): "You must let us go! He needs medical attention!"
GWENT (VO; as spotlight iluminates Companion's head): "What's wrong with him?"
HELENA: "He's dying!"
GWENT (VO): "Companion must not die!"
HELENA: "Words won't save him!"
COMPANION: "Don't pretend you didn't know I was dying. I said there were two reasons we came here. I am the second one."
HELENA (to room): "You knew he was dying?"
COMPANION: "You don't understand. Tell them you didn't want to admit I was dying! That my death is part of your life! You won't even admit it now! Will you?"
GWENT (VO): "No, you're not dying, you're only feigning, trying to annoy me. Admit it, you old fool!"
COMPANION (spotlight goes): "I admit nothing..old friend. I'm sorry to leave be..hind the worst part of me."
KOENIG: "Gwent?"
COMPANION: "Yes. Gwent..is me. But...he outgrew me. Think of me at my best. I leave you...to his...dreadful...mercy..." ((his head slumps forward))
GWENT (VO): "Companion? Companion? Companion!"
HELENA: "He is dead!"
GWENT (VO): "Blind savages! You've killed him!"
The floor sways as Gwent bellows cries of anguish & sobs.
FADE OUT
34.EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent slowly takes off.
GWENT (VO): "Now you will prepare him for burial."
33.INT. MAIN MISSION
SANDRA: "Look, it is lifting off!"
EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Eagles.
ALAN (VO): "Carter here."
WINTERS (VO): "Status."
36.INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION
ALAN: "Both the Eagles have superficial damage, but they're operational."
EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Gwent rising into space.
36.INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION
ALAN: "I have the machine in sight."
WINTERS (on screen): "Pursue it and stand by to attack."
38.EXT. SPACE (SFX)
2 small Eagles follow Gwent.
39.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
Companion is in a transparent case lying on the floor. The Alphans stand around him.
VICTOR: "Companion..is ready."
GWENT (VO): "I must need speak in passion, but he hears me not... Here lies Companion, my first friend.. Who served me without complaint or self pity, the best of his kind. Gone, now. I cherish his memory. His memory remains...remains..rema... Someone..."
KOENIG: "We commit to eternal space the body of Companion."
GWENT (VO): "Is that all?"
VICTOR: "Amen."
GWENT (VO): "Amen. Aaamen!" ((the coffin sinks into the floor)) "Companion!"
40.EXT. SPACE (SFX)
CU Gwent as the coffin leaves it.
Coffin leaves Gwent.
GWENT (VO): "Goodbye, old friend."
41.INT. MAIN MISSION
-Main Mission:
WINTERS: "What is that?"
EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Eagles & Gwent.
INT. MAIN MISSION
ALAN (VO): "Sensors indicate..a body."
WINTERS: "Alive?"
ALAN (VO): "Dead."
Beat.
WINTERS: "Execution of a hostage."
42.INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION
ALAN: "I'm moving in."
WINTERS (on screen): "No! They'll all be killed. Eagles One and Two return to base. Now!"
43.EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Eagles turn from Gwent.
INT. MAIN MISSION
WINTERS: "Get that load of supplies on Dock Four into an Eagle ready to lift off on my order."
EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Gwent returning.
45.INT. MAIN MISSION
SANDRA: "He's coming back!"
DAVID: "Destruction of Alpha..imminent."
EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Gwent.
45.INT. MAIN MISSION
WINTERS: "Is Eagle Four loaded with those supplies?"
TECHNICIAN (VO): "Ready in two minutes, sir."
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent rolls down to the surface.
GWENT (VO): "There is noone to restrain me now. Commander."
INT. MAIN CHAMBER
GWENT (VO): "Give your men the order!"
Koenig takes his comlock.
KOENIG: "Winters. Can you hear me?"
45.INT. MAIN MISSION
WINTERS: "Yes, sir."
KOENIG (VO): "We're still alive."
WINTERS: "All of you?"
KOENIG (VO): "Yes." ((Winters looks at Sandra)) "Get those supplies ready."
WINTERS: "They are ready, sir."
46.EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent slows & stops.
47.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
KOENIG: "What assurance do I have, Gwent? That you will release us once the supplies are delivered?"
GWENT (VO): "Assurance? Me?"
KOENIG: "Your famous word of honour?"
GWENT (VO): "If that will do!"
KOENIG: "It won't!"
A spotlight strikes Koenig; he collapses in pain. After a few moments it stops.
GWENT (VO): "You know, Commander, your hostility tires me. Companion's love was a source of joy. Must I waste valuable energy punishing you?"
VICTOR: "Waste..energy?" ((they look at each other))
KOENIG: "Gwent. What about those assurances."
GWENT (VO): "No further discussion. When I return, those supplies will be on hand. If you care to distinguish between life..and death."
The lights dim.
HELENA (whispers): "Return? From where?"
KOENIG: "Somewhere, everywhere, there's no sense in whispering." ((stands)) "Gwent! Gwent!"
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent.
47.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
KOENIG: "Gwent!"
VICTOR: "He needs to conserve energy. Obviously he's low on vital supplies."
KOENIG: "The lights."
HELENA: "Needs. He has needs."
VICTOR: "And Gwent has never lived alone."
HELENA: "It's not just the supplies."
KOENIG: "With Companion dead he must have a replacement."
FADE OUT
48.EXT. MOONBASE ALPHA (SFX)
Gwent & base.
49.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
KOENIG: "Gwent? Gwent!" ((he returns to Helena & Victor at the table)) "Curiouser and curiouser."
Victor walks at a pillar. As he touches it he shivers, then collapses. They run to him.
KOENIG: "Helena?"
HELENA: "It's his heart."
GWENT (VO; as lights come on): "What is your emergency?"
HELENA: "Heart seizure." ((spotlight passes over them as they bend over Victor))
KOENIG: "Will you help us?"
GWENT (VO): "Which of you..? Which of you..?"
HELENA: "Are you blind?"
Beat.
GWENT (VO): "Separate. Separate!" ((they back from Victor; the spotlight scans him)) "He has an artificial heart. He's in a forcefield."
HELENA: "The heart's drained of power!"
GWENT (VO): "Move him." ((Koenig drags him by his feet)) "Hurry."
KOENIG: "We must get him back to Alpha."
GWENT (VO): "Stand back. Three thousand volts of electrical energy for five seconds." ((lightning arcs down to Victor)) "Done."
HELENA: "Victor. Are you alright?"
VICTOR: "Yes. Alive and well." ((to Gwent)) "And very much obliged."
GWENT (VO): "Indeed you are. Like my Companion. I miss him." ((Koenig mimes a mouth with his hand & leaves with Helena)) "We understood each other, despite petty differences. He was such marvellous company."
VICTOR: "Ah, and, and you were actually friends?"
GWENT (VO): "Companion and I were fellow travellers...forever, so we thought."
VICTOR: "Ah, well. Everything changes."
GWENT (VO): "I don't. Companion always relied on me."
Victor has wandered to Koenig at the table: he has written 'I think he's blind' on it. Victor nods.
VICTOR: "And you...always relied on Companion?"
GWENT (VO): "Mmm."
Koenig takes his comlock.
50.INT. MAIN MISSION
Koenig appears on the Big Screen, putting his finger to his lips. The picture shifts to the table, & over his previous message Koenig writes 'PREPARE'.
51.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
GWENT (VO): "Commander."
52.INT. MAIN MISSION
Winters & Alan tense.
53.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
GWENT (VO): "Order your men to deliver my supplies. Now!"
KOENIG (as crosses out 'Prepare'): "Gwent. I've given you a lot of thought."
GWENT (VO): "So you should."
KOENIG: "You're not getting those supplies. It's you or us."
Koenig writes 'ATTACK'
54.INT. MAIN MISSION
WINTERS: "Attack!"
The screens flash 'Red Alert'.
INT. CORRIDOR
Pilots run to travel unit.

Eagle raised to the surface.

The staff fall about screaming.

Winters is seen on the screen.
WINTERS: "Commander..help!"
Koenig watches.
KOENIG: "Alright, Gwent. Whatever you say."

Gwent fires.
EXT. SPACE (SFX)
Eagle is hit.

KOENIG: "Whatever words appeal to you!"
GWENT (VO): "Surrender is sufficient."
KOENIG (takes comlock): "Cease fire. Recall all Eagles."
63.INT. MAIN MISSION
WINTERS: "Cease fire."
Alan looks at him.
EXT. MOONBASE ALPHA (SFX)
Gwent & base.
GWENT (VO): "So much better, dear friends."
64.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
GWENT (VO): "And I commend your courage, though it was, as you see, ill advised. These are my terms. Professor Bergman, because of your age and defective condition, "
INT. MAIN MISSION
GWENT (VO): " you'll return to your base in exchange for my supplies. Commander Koenig, Doctor Russell, you will stay with me as my companions for as long as you both shall live."
64.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
GWENT (VO): "Now, get those supplies."
KOENIG (takes comlock): "Prepare to lift off supplies."
WINTERS (VO): "Yes, sir."
Koenig replaces his comlock resignedly.

65.INT. CORRIDOR
Alan & 3 guards walk to the Travel Unit. On the comms post screen is Winters. He gives Alan a thumbs up. Alan returns it before entering the Unit.
INT. TRAVEL TUBE (SFX)
Unit speeds off.
Unit speeds slows.
EXT. LAUNCH PAD (SFX)
Tube extends to Eagle
Boarding tube connects with Eagle.
66.INT. EAGLE PASSENGER SECTION
Alan & the guards enter. Alan indicates to the other pilot & loaders not to speak, then indicates they leave. As he goes forward the guards sit.
67.EXT. LAUNCH PAD (SFX)
Eagle launches.
INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION
Alan.
68.EXT. MOONBASE ALPHA (SFX)
Eagle approaches Gwent from base.

A hatch opens in the base of Gwent.

GWENT (VO): "Professor Bergman. You'll be delighted to know your transport has arrived."
VICTOR: "Ah, Gwent. Please. Let them go."
GWENT (VO): "No. You weary me, Professor."
KOENIG: "At least let Doctor Russell go."
GWENT (VO): "And deprive you of your companion?"
EXT. EAGLE PASSENGER SECTION
The Eagle door opens & Alan looks out. The guards wheel a trolley loaded with boxes out.
70.INT. ANTECHAMBER
Alan & the guards enter.
ALAN: "We have brought the supplies. Sir."
INT. MAIN CHAMBER
ALAN (VO): "Everything that was on the list. Where do you want them?"
GWENT (VO): "Just set them down where you're standing."
70.INT. ANTECHAMBER
ALAN: "It's all accounted for."
GWENT (VO): "I'll see for myself."
The spotlight scans over the boxes, then passes to Alan, scanning over his stun gun & laser rifle.
GWENT (VO): "Ah. Dear me. Do I detect a weapon?"
71.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
ALAN (VO): "No. No, this is a comlock."
72.INT. ANTECHAMBER
ALAN: "It's part of our intercommunications system."
GWENT (VO): "Indeed." ((spotlight passes over laser of each of the guards)) "Ah, me. It's no use trusting humans. Always trying out your mindless schemes. Do you think me a fool? Get out of here with those weapons!"
ALAN: "But the Professor! Well, you said that..."
GWENT (VO): "That was before your treachery. Now the Professor stays with me."
73.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
GWENT (VO): "Get out!"
KOENIG: "You're not letting him go?"
GWENT (VO): "Tell your men to return to their craft before I do something you'll regret."
KOENIG: "Alan!"
INT. ANTECHAMBER
ALAN: "Yes, Commander."
73.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
KOENIG: "Fire at the door! Now!" ((the 3 fire their lasers))

Alan & the guards fire at the door.

Koenig, Helena & Victor give up, then turn at fire at the hall
GWENT (VO; laughs): "What a pitiful attempt."

GWENT (VO): "You're only good for killing each other."
Spotlights fall on Alan & the guards.
77.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
GWENT (VO): "Gwent giveth."
Spotlights fall on the Alphans.

Alan squirms on the floor.

The lights stop.
GWENT (VO): "And Gwent taketh away."
INT. ANTECHAMBER

GWENT (VO): "Ah well. Perhaps some small use can be made of your experience, Professor Bergman."

GWENT (VO): "Get out! Before I kill you!" ((the guards hurry out; Alan pauses at the door)) "Get out!"

The staff watch out the viewports.
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Eagle leaves Gwent.
GWENT (VO): "You are defenceless against me. No more demonstrations."
79.INT. MAIN MISSION
The staff return to their desks.
80.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
GWENT (VO): "Now, my dear...Companions. Get those supplies!" ((a spotlight leads the way)) "Come along. Come along, come along." ((they enter the antechamber)) "This one first." ((Koenig & Victor take a hexagonal tube))
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent rolls impatiently.
GWENT (VO): "Hurry, please."
80.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
Koenig & Victor take the tube inside.
GWENT (VO): "Open it." ((they release the locks)) "Open it." ((they open it)) "Aahhh. Over here.." ((a wall hole flashes)) "Here. Insert it. Here. Quickly." ((voice tires)) "Quickly." ((weakens)) "Quickly."
VICTOR: "No."
Spotlights hit them.
GWENT (VO): "When will you learn? To obey?"
KOENIG: "What's the matter, Gwent? You tiring, Gwent? You didn't hurt us so much that time. Are you immortal, Gwent?"
GWENT (VO): "I have enough energy left to destroy you and your entire base! I warn you!"
VICTOR: "Alright, then! Come along and get it over with!"
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent
GWENT (VO): "I demand your cooperation."
80.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
KOENIG: "Cooperation? Who the hell are you? We don't know who you are, where you've been, or where you're going."
GWENT (VO): "I am Delmer Powys Plebus Gwent of the planet Zemo. A man of considerable importance on that planet, perhaps not fully recognised as the scientific genius I am. I created this entity, "
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent.
GWENT (VO): " an extension of myself; my entire personality is here, and combined with it, "
80.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
GWENT (VO): " is the superior ability of a computer's brain, and all the might and power known to our planet. I am impervious to destruction and powerful enough to destroy an entire universe. That is who I am, Delmer Powys Plebus Gwent."
Koenig walks back to Helena & Victor & lifts the rod above his head.
KOENIG: "Well, Delmer Powys Plebus Gwent, you have lost!"
GWENT (VO): "Don't! ...Please!"
KOENIG: "You can expend your last energies destroying us, if you wish. But in the end, you will die." ((he throws down the rod, smashing it))
GWENT (VO): "I misjudged you. My experience over these years...travelling the universe alone..blind..dependant on Companion, has left me untrusting, suspicious, cynical, perhaps paranoid. You see, having built this, yes, machine, to preserve my personality, I discovered too late it's inherent weakness. I need...company. None of us exists except in relation to others. Alone, we cease to have personalities. Isolation. Do you understand?"
VICTOR: "Oh, my dear Gwent. You were wrong from the beginning. To attempt to preserve one's personality is the ultimate vanity."
GWENT (VO): "Yes...yes...you are right. It was vanity. The first and last of all sins. I would like...to thank you. I welcome my release."
The lights fade.
HELENA: "The oxygen's going."
They walk to the closed door.
KOENIG: "Gwent! Open the door! Let us out! Gwent! We've been too successful. He's killed himself. And us with him."
FADE OUT
81.INT. MAIN CHAMBER
The Alphans lie on the floor. Koenig crawls to his comlock on the table.
DAVID (on comlock screen): "Commander Koenig. Main Mission calling Commander Koenig. Commander Koenig. Come in, Commander. Can you hear me? Commander Koenig. Come in, Commander. Main Mission calling Commander Koenig." ((Koenig takes the comlock)) "Commander, what's happened?"
KOENIG: "Kano. Gwent. He's dead. We're locked in here."
DAVID: "We've despatched an Eagle."
KOENIG: "No use. You can't get in." ((Koenig stumbles to the broken rod & drops a fragment in the hole; a whine)) "Gwent...save us..." ((lights come on)) "No, not the lights...oxygen...oxygen..." ((hiss of air)) "Open the door..." ((Alan & the guards run in & help them up)) "I'm alright."
ALAN: "You sure?"
KOENIG: "Yeah."
They walk to the door. Koenig looks back at the dark chamber.
GWENT (VO): "Goodbye. Dear friends."
82.INT. MAIN MISSION
They enter.
WINTERS: "Sure you're alright, sir?"
KOENIG: "I'm fine."
They walk to the viewports.
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent rolls off the ground.
82.INT. MAIN MISSION
HELENA: "He's alive."
ALAN: "It's coming straight towards us."
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent slowly rises over the surface.
82.INT. MAIN MISSION
KOENIG: "Quick, Sandra. Get him on visual."
EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)
Gwent.

DAVID: "It's not lifting up."

Gwent impacts into a crater wall. Explosion.
