The Catacombs Breakaway Lost Scenes

This is scene 25. Koenig has just visited Carter in Technical, and is now with Paul Morrow watching the meta signal (the call from Simmonds that is in the episode occurs at the end of this scene). In the final episode, we see Koenig leaving Main Mission for his office with the signal on the Big Screen.
Breakaway

Paul says: "It's some kind of language. We come close to finding a serial pattern and then it goes... But it's there, somewhere. It's language, I'm sure of it. Meta's trying to make contact with us. Another civilisation possibly... Commander, we've got to get those men out of Medical, out there, and find out who or what is on Meta."

A woman's voice calls over the radio: "Commander Koenig, Commander Koenig, there's an Earth call for you on the scrambler... Commissioner Simmonds."

Cut. Camera off. That's a wrap.
This is scene 47, in Koenig's office. It is shortly after the first scene above, where Gorski had visited Koenig. Koenig has just told Ouma he wants him to look for a correlation between the training flights and the flights of the shuttle pilot, Collins. Helena calls him (at one point a crew member says "Buzz" to indicate the sound of the commlock) and enters the door (the rough noise of the sliding door is heard on the soundtrack).

Crew: "52 take 1. Quiet. Action."
Koenig: "Yes?"
Helena: "Commander, I have the autopsy reports on the two..."
Landau: "How was that for position?"

Crew: "52 take 2. Action."
Koenig: "Yes?"
Helena: "Commander, I have the autopsy reports on the Meta Probe astronauts."
(door slides open masking Helena's opening line)
Helena: "...the other cases are undeniable. The brain damage was less severe. The survival period was longer. Otherwise they are identical in every way to the other victims."
Koenig: "And the shuttle pilot?"
Crew: "Mark it." (Clap)
Landau: "How was that?"

Crew: "Ready. Action."
Koenig: "Yes?"
Helena: "Commander, I have the ... I have something, I don't know what."

Crew: "52 take 6. Action.
Man: Buzz.
Koenig: "Yes?"
Helena: "I have the autopsy reports on the two Meta Probe astronauts."
Koenig: "Alright."
Door opens.
Helena: "The similarities to the other cases are undeniable. The brain damage was less severe. The survival period longer. Otherwise they are identical in every way to the other victims."
Koenig: "And the shuttle pilot?"
Helena: "The same. No variation at all."
Koenig: "Strange Commander Gorksi never accepted any of your findings."
Helena: "Yes, he's made it very difficult."
Koenig: "Was there any friction between you and him, of a personal nature?"
Pause.
Helena: "What has Commander Gorski told you?"
Koenig: "He's made certain references."
Helena: "To what? (noise heard over)

Crew: "46 take 1. Go."
Helena: "The similarities to the other cases is undeniable.
  The similarities ...
  The similarities ...
The similarities between... excuse me, what is it, tell me?"

Crew: "46 take 2.
Helena: "The similarities to the other cases are undeniable."
Crew: "One more."
Helena: "The similarities to the other cases are undeniable."
Crew: "Thank you very much."

Crew: "Ok, take 1. Action."
Helena: "The brain damage was less severe and the survival period longer. Otherwise they're identical in every way to the other victims."
Koenig: "The shuttle pilot?"
Helena: "The same. No variation."
Koenig: "Strange that Commander Gorksi never accepted any of your findings."
Helena: "He's made it very difficult."
Koenig: "Was there ever any connection... uh..."

Crew: "47 take 2."
Helena: "The brain damage was less severe and the survival period longer. Otherwise they're identical in every way to the other victims."
Koenig: "And the shuttle pilot?"
Helena: "The same. No variation."
Koenig: "Strange that Commander Gorksi never accepted any of your findings."
Helena: "He's made it very difficult."
Koenig: "Was there any friction between you and him? I mean of a personal nature?"
Pause.
Helena: "What has Commander Gorski told you?"
Koenig: "He's made certain references."
Helena: "To what? My lack of judgement?"
Koenig: "In a sense."
She exhales. Helena: "He indicated an interest in me at a certain point. I did not reciprocate. That perhaps was my lack of judgement."
Koenig: "I see. Thank you, doctor. I'm going to rescind all of Commander Gorski's instructions on the computer."
Helena: "Thank you. Commander, there has to be a link between the ..."
A crew member reads out Ouma's line: "Commander... those flight recorder tapes..." Crew: "Cut."

This is the original version of scene 3, in the Nuclear Disposal Area Depot as Bergman and Helena watch Nordstrom and Steiner entering to check the radiation. The sound reel is dated 28 December 1973. In the final episode they are alone, but in the original version they are joined by Gundlach, the chief of the disposal area, played by Michael Sheard. This scene has his only speaking line.
Breakaway Breakaway

Crew: "Action."
Helena asks: "Are they normally out there as long as this?"
Gundlach answers: "One hour is the limit. Just as a precaution. But until recently we have never had any accidents"
Bergman: "So far their brain activity seems to be normal."
Helena: "So far. But if there's any variation, any variation at all, I'm pulling them out."
Now we can hear Technician Nordstrom speak (the lines are probably read by the director). "Unit twenty three reporting. Radiation count - normal."
Morrow appears on the TV screen (Prentis Hancock speaks the line just off camera). "Dr. Russell, Professor Bergman"
Bergman: "Yes."
Morrow: "Commander Koenig's E.T.A. is in thirty minutes ... at two three three five."
Helena: "Thank you, Paul." She turns back to Bergman. "I hope he's the right man."
Crew: "Very nice."
"If he isn't, we can always get another..." says Barbara Bain and laughs.

This is the scene 26, as Koenig talks to Simmonds on his office communications post. None of these is the final take used in the episode, but they demonstrate how many takes it took to film the scene.
Breakaway Breakaway

Crew: "102 take 2 retake."

Simmonds: "Ah, John. How are you? Settling in up there, I hope. I just wanted your first impressions of the situation."

Crew: "Mark it. 103 take 3 retake."

Simmonds: "Ah, John. How are you? Settling in up there, I hope. I just wanted your first impressions of the situation."
"There was another death this morning at the Nuclear Disposal Area. Doctor Russell talks about a kind of brain damage. Caused by what she thinks is radiation."
"Yes, yes, I've heard all about that theory of hers from Gorski. No, she's a very competent doctor, John, in certain fields of space medicine, but she's wrong about this situation. Dead wrong. So I'm going to send you up a team of top medical people to probe into ..."
"Hold it, hold it, Not that settled in. Before we do anything, I'd like to make sure that there's no radiation leak in that disposal area."
"Now look here, those two Meta Probe astronauts didn't go anywhere near that area."
"Nine men have died. I want to find out why. I'd like you to stop sending up ... "

Crew: "Mark it. 104 retake."

Simmonds: "Ah, John. How are you? Settling in up there, I hope. I just wanted your first impressions of the situation."

"Hold it. Not that settled in. Before we do anything, I'd like to make sure that there's no radiation leak in that disposal area."
"Now look here, those two Metra Probe astronauts didn't go anywhere near that area."
"Nine men have died, Commissioner. I want to find out why. Now I'd like you to stop sending up any more atomic waste - "
"Now you know I can't possibly do that. Atomic waste disposal is one of the biggest problems of our time."
"Simmonds, you sent me up here to clear up this mess, that's what I'm trying to do."
Crew: "Cut".

Crew: "105 retake."

Simmonds: "Ah, John. Well how are you? Settling in up there, I hope. I just wanted your first impressions of the situation."
"There was another death this morning, at the Nuclear Disposal Area. Doctor Russell talks about a kind of brain damage. Caused by what she thinks is radiation."

"Now look here, those two Meta Probe astronauts didn't go anywhere near that area."
"Nine men have died, Commissioner. I want to find out why. You could stop sending up any more atomic waste until - "
"Now you know I can't possibly do that. Atomic waste disposal is one of the biggest problems of our time."
"Simmonds. You assigned me up here to clear up this mess, that's what I'm trying to do."

Koenig: "Not that settled in. Before we do anything, I'd like .. uh"

Koenig: "Not that settled in. Before we do anything, I'd like to make sure that there's no radiation leak in that disposal area."
"Now look here, those two Meta Probe astronauts ..."

Koenig: "I'm not that settled in. Before we do anything, I ..."

Koenig: "I'm not that settled in. Before we do anything, I want... I can't get past it."

Koenig: "I'm not that settled in. Before we do anything, I want... "

Koenig: "I'm not that settled in. Before we do anything, I'd like to make certain there's no radiation leak in that disposal area"
"Look here, those two Meta Probe astronauts didn't go anywhere near that area."
"Commissioner, nine men have died. I'd like to know why. Tell you what you can do. Stop sending up any more atomic waste until- "
"Now you know very well I can't possibly do that. Atomic waste disposal is one of the biggest problems of our times."
"Simmonds, you assigned me up here to clear up this mess, that's what I'm trying to do."
Crew: "Cut. Print. Absolutely. Very good."
