ters, he couldn't fill the scientific void left by Bergman's demise, so a second character, a "resident aline" was in- troduced. Native to the planet Psychon, Maya provided the advanced scientific knowledge of her race that of- then pulled the Alphans out of tight situations. She also had the unique ability to change herself into any living creature for the length of one hour's time through the art of molecular tran- formation. This gift was put to use on numerous occasions--both for humorous relief and to save the Alphan's collective necks. Character changes, the move from Main Mission to a more compact Command Center, and a move away from the rather philosophical mood that dominated Year One were not the only changes instigated by Freiberger. He also introduced and pursued a hint of romance between the major charac- ters, wanting to add a more human touch to them. It was established in the very first Year Two episode that the tentative, hesitant, almost unacknowledged attraction Koenig and Russell had felt for one another during Year One had become a full- fledged love affair, with all theen- tanglements and involvement implied. A romantic attachment between Maya and Verdeschi was also developed during the course of the Year Two episodes. GUEST APPEARANCES
To aid the Alphans in the journeyacross space and in the search for a new planet to settle, a stream of well known guest stars made appearances as either aliens or other Alphans. In- cluded on this list are the late Margaret Leighton as an alien, Queen Arra; Joan Collins, who can currently be seen as Alexis Carrington Colby on ABC's Dynasty; and David Prowse, the man behind the Darth Vader mask. Christoper Lee appeared as the alien Captain Zandor and Peter Cushing as an alien scientist, Raan. Jeremy Kemp, who can currently be viewed in the movie Top Secret, portrayed an out- of-favor scientist. Also included as guest stars were people who have only recently become known to American audiences. Stuart Damon of General Hospital appeared as a guest star twice. Sarah Douglas, |
