The Moon travels through a space phenomenon; afterwards it is billions of miles
from it's prior position and heading for orbit around planet Earth, which has been
devastated by a shift in its axis. The Alphans discover a livable area on the planet
and go down to investigate. On Earth they find themselves, but 5 years in the future.
The current Alphans can't go down to live on the planet because they all risk death
when confronting their future selves. However the Moon is heading for a collision with
the future Moon, so all on current Alpha face death either way.
The Alphans don't know if the other Earth is from their future, their past or an alternate
reality. It has been devastated by a shift in it axis, causing most of the planet to be
covered in ice or deserts. A small section of North America is found to be habitable, but still
is quite barren, even after 5 years of cultivation by the future Alphans.
