Koenig is piloting Eagle; the cabin sways.
KOENIG: "Yippee! Ha, ha, ha. Hey, her, hey."

2. EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Eagle swoops.
KOENIG (VO): "Weee!"

3. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

SANDRA: "Commander Koenig."

2. EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Eagle sways.

5. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

Sandra.
-Big Screen (SFX): static changes to picture of small Eagle rising.
SANDRA (VO): "Tony."
-Command Centre. Tony & Maya turn from the computer.
SANDRA: "You'd better see this."
-Big Screen (SFX): small Eagle turns (sc 6)
-Command Centre (sc 7). Tony goes to his desk.
TONY: "John. What the hell's going on up there?"

8. INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

Koenig laughs as his helmet rolls on the floor by him.

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

POV: lunar hills.
TONY (VO): "John, what's going on up there?"

INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

Koenig laughs.
KOENIG (as if to avoid something, merrily): "Oh oh."
TONY (VO): "Come in, John."

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Eagle flies over hills.
TONY (VO): "John, can you hear me?"

INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

KOENIG (holding up hands from joy sticks): "Look ma, no hands!"

10. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

TONY (as Helena enters): "Do you read me?"
-Big Screen (SFX, sc 11): Eagle turns.
KOENIG: "Oh baby, look out!"
-Command Centre (sc 12).
MAYA: "There was a reported increase in the neutron count. The commander went up to investigate."
KOENIG: "Yeah."

INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

KOENIG: "I haven't had so much fun since I burned granma's wig."

14. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

HELENA (using Maya's desk): "Medical Unit, stand by."
KOENIG (on Sandra's screen, as Alan enters beyond): "Hey, you really got to try this, you have to fly this baby to really believe it, it's terrific." ((laughs))
-Big Screen (SFX): Eagle.
KOENIG (VO): "Wow!"

15. INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

KOENIG: "Hallelujah, there are angels everywhere!"

16. EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Eagle swoops (as in opening shot)

INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

Koenig.

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

POV of flight through lunar hills.

19. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

SANDRA: "He's heading for the nuclear waste dumps."
ALAN: "He's too low. He'll hit one of the domes."
TONY: "John, get out of there. That's lethal."

20. INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

KOENIG: "Come and join us, come and join us, "

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

POV as flies through hills & see domes. (distant shot)
KOENIG (VO): "Come and join our happy band! Haha, yehoo!"
Eagle flies over domes (medium shot).
Eagle swoops over surface.
KOENIG (VO): "Wee! Haha."

INT. COMMAND CENTRE

TONY: "Alan, take over that Eagle by remote."
HELENA: "Medical Rescue Unit to launch area."
SANDRA: "Crash unit four to launch area."
ALAN: "He's deactivated the remote control. I can't take over."
Tony hits his desk in frustration.

INT. CORRIDOR

Two astronauts run through the corridor & into Reception.

21. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

TONY: "If he hits one of those domes he could cause a nuclear explosion."
MAYA: "No. That would need a specific stimulation. With atomic fuel."

22. EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Eagle swoops between domes.

23. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

TONY: "He's gonna crash. Alan, get over there. Take a couple of nuclear physicists with you, just in case."
ALAN: "Ehrlich, Bartlett." ((they go))

26. EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Eagle swoops between domes.

INT. COMMAND CENTRE

Helena is leaving; she stops to hear Koenig laughing.

27. INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

KOENIG: "Keep your head down, big daddy's coming in, yah!"

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

POV of domes.
TONY (VO): "John, get out of there!"

INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

Koenig hears a bleeper; he instinctively reacts to it, the frivolity fading from his face.

EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)

Close on dome 5.

INT. EAGLE PILOT SECTION

Koenig.

Eagle clips the tower on dome 7, causing a small explosion.

Koenig reacts.

Eagle flies low over surface.

37. EXT. MOON SURFACE

Ehrlich & another carry Koenig away, filmed by Kander.
HELENA (VO): "Moonbase Alpha Status Report. Nineteen hundred and twelve days since leaving Earth orbit. Doctor Helena Russell recording. Commander Koenig, while piloting Eagle Ten, became suddenly irrational and unresponsive. He crashed in the area of the nuclear waste domes."

EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)

Crashed Eagle still smoking.

EXT. MOON SURFACE

Kander, wearing an Eagle 2 spacesuit, films.

EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)

Domes, the nearest one still smoking.

EXT. MOON SURFACE

Kander goes to Bartlett.
KANDER: "I've got it all on film. What's the radiation count?"
BARTLETT: "Negative. All clear."

38. EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)

Rescue Eagle launches.

INT. TRAVEL TUBE (SFX)

Travel unit speeds along.
Travel unit speeds along.
Travel unit stops.

39. INT. CORRIDOR

Koenig is wheeled out of the travel unit & Helena, Ben & an orderly hurry him through Reception, along the corridor, & into Medical.

40. INT. MEDICAL

Helena & Ben finish fixing a unit to Koenig's head.
BEN: "He was lucky."
TONY: "Will he be okay?"
HELENA: "He's got a severe concussion." ((sees Maya looking at complex)) "It's a feedback complex, Maya. It takes brain impulses, modifies them, feeds them back into the brain."
BEN: "It's like a brain massage, electronic."
HELENA: "It is still...experimental."
MAYA: "Then you don't know the side effects? Is it worth the risk?"
HELENA: "If I don't take the risk.." ((goes back to Koenig))
TONY: "What happened to him up there?"
HELENA: "I don't know."
SANDRA (on comms post): "Tony, I have something on the screen."
TONY: "I'm on my way, Sahn. Hang in there, John. Come on, Maya." ((they leave))

52. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

TONY (entering): "What is it?"
SANDRA: "It's too far away to tell."
TONY: "Maya?"
MAYA: "Sensors pick up configuration of spaceship."
-Big Screen (SFX, sc 56): space.
-Command Centre:
TONY: "Range?"
SANDRA: "Ninety million, two hundred and ten thousand miles."
TONY: "Heading?"
MAYA: "Directly at us."
-Big Screen (SFX): space.
-Command Centre (sc 57): Tony uses Sandra's desk.
HELENA (on screen): "Medical Centre."
TONY: "Helena? How long before I can talk to John?"

58. INT. MEDICAL

HELENA (to comms post): "Fifteen minutes at the earliest. He's linked to that Brain Complex, Tony. I don't dare break the sequence."

59. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

TONY: "Okay, thanks."
MAYA: "Even at the speed of light it would take that spaceship almost an hour to reach Alpha."
TONY: "What happened to the monitoring crew that went out to the nuclear waste area?"
MAYA: "They're on their way back to report."
SANDRA: "Tony! Range forty million miles!"
-Big Screen (SFX): space, a small dot.
MAYA (VO): "It's impossible! That means it's exceeding the speed of light!"
-Command Centre:
SANDRA: "Thirty two million miles."
ALAN (entering): "Well, we're lucky. Damage to that nuclear dome was minimal."
EHRLICH: "Yeh, not a trace of a radiation leak."
BARTLETT: "The nuclear waste area is stable."
ALAN: "Yeh. It's gonna stay that way for centuries unless some fool drives a hot plutonium rod into one of the domes."
TONY: "Magnify."
-Big Screen (SFX, sc 60): front of Swift
TONY (VO): "Alan, what do you make of that thing?"
-Command Centre (sc 61)
ALAN: "It's a Superswift."
TONY: "No, it can't be."
ALAN: "Aah, but it is, I tell you."
-Big Screen (SFX): Superswift.
TONY (VO): "The Superswift never got off the drawing board."
ALAN (VO): "No."
-Command Centre
ALAN: "Not before we left Earth, but things have changed."
TONY: "Physics hasn't changed. That thing is moving faster than the speed of light."

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

61. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

EHRLICH: "Sure looks like the drawings of Superswift."
ALAN: "Seems like human technology to me."
BARTLETT: "It could be from Earth."
TONY: "Whatever that thing is out there, let's not get sentimental about it."
SANDRA: "Tony, it's moving in to land."

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Superswift in space.

63. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

TONY: "Weapons Section. Arm all lasers."

Laser turret 1 rises.
Laser turret 2 rises in hills.
Laser turret 1 turns.

EXT. MOONBASE ALPHA (SFX)

Superswift moves over base.

61. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

TONY: "Open a channel. Moonbase Alpha to spaceship. Identify yourself."
-Big Screen (SFX, sc 62): Superswift landing on pad.
TONY: "Repeat, identify."

Superswift lands.

Door to the Travel Tube to Launch Pad 4. Crowded Alphans wait, including Kander preparing his camera.

Travel unit stops.

70. INT. RECEPTION

The doors of the Unit open & the Superswift crew emerge.
TONY: "Guido!"
GUIDO: "Tony!"
TONY: "Guido!"
GUIDO: "Tony!"
TONY: "I saw you on that screen, I didn't believe it."
Bartlett looks past Ken as he sees Alan & throws a blow at him.
KEN: "Alan! Still keeping that guard up, Carter!"
ALAN: "I've still got the Houston Base Championship, buddy."
KEN: "Only because I couldn't get up here for a rematch."

HELENA: "Doctor Shaw!"
SHAW: "Helena."
HELENA (as Diana passes): "And Diana."

SANDRA (seeing Peter): "Peter darling!" ((they embrace & kiss))

GUIDO: "Now look brother, I'm a captain now, I want a little respect from you."
TONY: "Oh, well that cuts both ways." ((they pass on, Diana following behind; they pass Ehrlich & Henry))
EHRLICH: "Henry, you old hound dog, you."
HENRY: "What's your handicap?"
DIANA (passing; their eyes follow her): "Hi."
EHRLICH: "Well, Henry, I hate to have to tell you this, but I can put a shot into the crater at sixteen hundred yards. How's your handicap?" ((laughter))

INT. MEDICAL

Sandstrom checks bottles by the sleeping Koenig.

70. INT. RECEPTION

ALAN (to Ken): "You are looking so fit!"
KEN: "That's the green grass, fresh air on Earth, you know."
ALAN (as Louisa passes): "Well, hello."
LOUISA: "Hello. Could you tell me where to find Doctor Ben Vincent?"
ALAN: "Uh hmm. You're his sister, right?"
LOUISA: "No."
ALAN: "Oh. His daughter?"
LOUISA: "No."
ALAN: "I know, you're his grandmother."
LOUISA: "No."
ALAN: "Oh boy. I guess that only means you're going to tell me what I'm afraid you're gonna tell me?"
LOUISA: "Yes, I'm his fiancee." ((she goes to Ben, leaning against a wall nearby))
KEN (to Alan): "Well done, sport. Wonderful."
BEN: "Did you make that physiotherapy major?"
LOUISA: "Oh, without your coaching it was difficult. But I made it."
BEN: "Okay, well, I..listen, I've got a lot of stiff tendons round here, you know."
LOUISA (feels his neck): "Around here?" ((they embrace))

70. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

GUIDO: "Hey, hold it, listen, listen, hold it, hold it, everybody! Come on, now. Now listen!" ((they quieten)) "If you'll just try to contain yourselves for a little while. You've all naturally got thousands of things you want to know."
ALAN: "You betya, tens of thousands!"
SHAW: "Okay, how are things back on Earth.."
TONY: "How are things back on Earth?"
SHAW: "the time it took us to get here, how we finally made it."
BARTLETT: "When are we going to get back?"
SHAW: "Yes, and when you're going back to Earth, all the whys and the wherefores. Now look, just give us a minute to get our breath back and then we'll have a nice relaxed session, we'll answer all your questions. Everything you want to know. Okay everybody, thank you very much." ((applause))
GUIDO (after he & Tony see Maya entering during above): "What is that?"
TONY: "Come on, I'll introduce you. Maya, this is my brother, Guido."
GUIDO (kisses her hand): "I'm his elder brother, and his smarter brother, and his handsomer brother."
TONY: "In every other way he's a poor second."
GUIDO: "Put it there, old buddy."
TONY (taking his hand in an arm wrestle): "Certainly, old buddy."
MAYA: "Is it always like this between you?"
GUIDO: "No, no, I usually dominate him effortlessly."
TONY: "Oh, yes, he has to have his little fantasies. Comes from the fact I always got his girls."
GUIDO: "That's 'cause he could never get any of his own." ((they chuckle))

SANDRA (pulling Peter to Helena & Shaw): "Oh, come on, I'll introduce you. Helena, this is Peter Rockwell."
PETER: "Hello, how are you?"
SANDRA: "He's a pilot. We were going to be married when my tour of duty on Alpha ended."
HELENA: "I've heard a lot about you."
PETER: "I thought I lost her for good."
HELENA: "Never underestimate the extent of human inventiveness."
SHAW: "You always did take that view."
SANDRA: "You knew each other before?"
HELENA: "Doctor Shaw was my tutor at Medical College. He taught me everything there is to know about being a doctor."

MAYA: "Um, what do you do here?"
TONY (as they arm wrestle): "He's a cab driver."
GUIDO: "I captained the Superswift that brought us here."
TONY: "It's a miracle anyone made it."
MAYA: "How did you obtain a speed faster than light?"
GUIDO (straining as arm wrestle): "Um, little old Earth has progressed, um, physics came up with a new wrinkle, ah, we can now make loops in the continuum."
TONY: "Don't let him fool you, Maya. He hasn't got the faintest idea what he's talking about."

HUNTER: "Yeah, it was Rhinehart who made the breakthrough at Cambridge."
BARTLETT (as looks at report sheet): "Cambridge, England?"
HUNTER: "Massachusetts. It means we can travel anywhere in the Universe now. The journey back to Earth, well, it's just a bus ride in Earth time."

GUIDO: "We're just the scouting party. The big transporters will be along soon and then it's goodbye Moon for everyone."
TONY: "Oh, I can't wait! Maya?" ((she goes aside)) "She'll be alright. How's mama?"
GUIDO: "You know mama. She's making you a mound of pasta the size of Vesuvius. And the sauce!"
TONY: "I know, I know, everything in it but holy water. How did she take it? When the news broke out that we'd blown out?"
GUIDO: "Three days of weeping, and then two days of phoning the White House to demand action."
TONY (laughs): "Oh boy, that's mama."
GUIDO: "And then she finally decided simply not to believe it. The scientists were talking out of their navels as usual. It was simply a matter of time."
TONY: "And papa?"
GUIDO: "He went quiet. Then he got thin."
TONY: "Yeah, sure."

Favour Louisa & Ben, talking quietly in background.

Hunter looks round, & passes Peter, touching his shoulder. The 2 leave Louisa with Sandra.
LOUISA: "And how did you meet?"
SANDRA (slightly bemused at being left): "Oh,..at somebody's party."

ALAN (as Diana passes): "You look a little lost. Can I help you?"
Diana looks round at him, then looks him over.
DIANA: "Perhaps later." ((she goes))

SHAW (as Helena watches Diana searching): "Trouble?"
HELENA: "I bet she's been looking for John ever since she got here. She knew him before..I did."
SHAW: "Does that give her territorial rights?"
HELENA: "Well, you know Diana Morris. She's like the Fifth Cavalry. Wherever she plants her flag is home."
SHAW: "Oh, well, I think I'll just leave you to it."
HELENA: "Thanks a lot."
DIANA: "Helena, darling. We haven't had a proper little chat."
HELENA: "No we haven't, Diana, but..there's lots of time for that."
DIANA: "Oh, you poor dear. It must have been terrible here. It's obviously been..awfully wearing."
HELENA: "I think space is generally very hard on women. How long have you been, what is it, ah, Navigating Officer?"
DIANA: "Still, there's something to be said for a marooned society. It does limit men's choices."
HELENA: "And women's opportunities."
DIANA: "I've always made my own opportunities."
HELENA: "Um. There are some of us who still prefer them to come to us."

TONY (as Kander films them): "Hey, Clive! You're always on the camera, huh? Is there anything you don't get on tape?"
KANDER: "This is for the record. And this little baby's watching history being made."
GUIDO: "There's only one thing, Clive."
KANDER: "Uh? What's that?"
GUIDO: "You won't get to be in the picture!"

DIANA: "How do you get along with John Koenig?"
HELENA: "Well, in a small community, ah, everyone has to get along with everyone else."
DIANA: "Cosy."
HELENA: "Isn't it?"
DIANA: "Do you, ah, find him interesting?"
HELENA: "He's everything you said he was."
DIANA: "I'm glad you can second my opinion."
HELENA: "As a matter of fact, he's much more than you said he was. There are depths to him that I'm sure you never found out about."
DIANA: "I must look for them at once. Where is he?"
HELENA: "At the moment he is linked to an Ellendorf quadrographic brain complex."
DIANA: "How very wise of you, darling."

INT. MEDICAL

Sandstrom looks over Koenig & the room, then walks out, pushing a trolley.

INT. CORRIDOR

SANDSTROM (as pushes trolley past): "Hi."
HENRY: "Hi."
Sandstrom passes Hunter & Peter, then stops & turns, mesmerised. He returns to Medical.

71. INT. MEDICAL

Sandstrom enters & starts turning switches on the brain complex. Koenig writhes.

FADE OUT

ACT THREE

EXT. MOONBASE ALPHA (SFX)

INT. MEDICAL

Koenig writhes as Sandstrom plays with the controls.

72. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

BEN: "This is a medical monitor. These are strategically placed so that from anywhere on Alpha we can keep a check on our patients." ((switches on, showing Koenig writhing))
LOUISA (draws him away, to her): "It's a good rational setup."
BEN: "Hey, why don't we get out of this heavy traffic, huh? I know a nice cosy spot." ((he looks at Koenig on the screen))
LOUISA: "Ben."
Ben stares into her eyes, then turns it off. Alan arrives.
ALAN: "I wonder if you wouldn't mind, Ben. I have some very important questions that I want to put to Louisa. You know, about the shape of things back on Earth, the configuration of the modern female form."
DIANA (to Helena): "Darling, where have you got John on this brain machine? I'm dying to see him. Can I see him? Please? I know he's longing to see me?"
Ben feels his head, then switches on the monitor to show Koenig; he rushes out.
HELENA (seeing Ben go): "John." ((she follows him. Close on Diana))

75. INT. MEDICAL

Ben rushes in, tears Sandstrom from the machine, hits him in the stomach & throws him at a panel, which explodes. Ben tries to reset the machine, but Sandstrom runs at him. Ben elbows him back & throws him over his shoulder. Sandstrom then charges at him, both colliding into computer panels causing an explosion. Sandstrom tries to strangle Ben, then heads to the machine, but Ben trips him. Ben goes to the moaning Koenig. Sandstrom runs to him again, but Ben turns & grabs his neck in a crossed arm lock, forcing him to the ground. Helena enters.
HELENA: "Ben!"
BEN: "Sandstrom was trying to kill Koenig." ((checks machine)) "He's alright. The cycle's completed. If it had happened earlier.."
SANDSTROM (standing): "Wha..happened?"
HELENA: "Are you alright?"
SANDSTROM: "W...w.."
BEN (angrily going to him & gripping him): "I'll tell you what happened."
HELENA: "Wait a minute."
BEN: "You tried to kill Koenig."
HELENA: "Ben, now just take it easy."
SANDSTROM: "Kill Koenig! I have to kill Koenig!" ((Ben takes his arm & twists it behind him)) "He'll destroy us all! He'll destroy... us. all.." ((Helena sedates him))
HELENA (as he falls asleep): "Here we go, here we go. Easy." ((Helena & Ben look at each other))

76. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

SANDRA: "What about fashions? What's everybody wearing?"
DIANA: "Well, there is a lot of silver about. Necklines tend to be a little lower, skirts tend to be a little higher."
TONY (runs to Maya as she leaves): "Now where do you think you're going?"
MAYA: "Well, I..I didn't want to disturb the big reunion."
TONY: "What are you talking about?"
MAYA: "Well. I..I don't want to disturb everybody."
TONY: "Oh, don't be so ridiculous. You couldn't disturb anybody. Now come on.."
MAYA: "No, no. Please, Tony. Um, I've got to check some computers."
TONY (sternly): "Maya. Come here."

ALAN: "Hey, Guido. What I want to know is what kind of propulsion you use to boost you past the speed of light?"
GUIDO: "It's a development of the ion rocket."

TONY: "Look, I always knew you were naive."
MAYA: "Me, naive?"
TONY: "Yeah, but I never knew you were shy before." ((they are about to kiss))
DIANA (interrupting): "I do love your makeup."
TONY: "Um. Diana, this is Maya."
DIANA: "How do you do?"
TONY: "Maya is a Psychon, ah, she's the last of her species."
DIANA: "I'm not surprised." ((takes him by the arm away)) "Tell me, how do you manage, " ((she feels his biceps)) " umm, to keep so fit up here?"
TONY: "Well, a little bit of this and a little bit of that. We manage."
DIANA: "Ah. You jog?"
TONY: "What?"
DIANA: "Jog?"
TONY: "Oh."
DIANA: "I do think exercise is so important to a man, don't you?" ((behind her Maya transforms into lizard animal))
TONY: "Yeah, I couldn't survive without it."
DIANA: "I mean, I think it's so important to his physical well being."
TONY: "Maya!"
DIANA (turning to see Maya, back as herself): "I do a little yoga myself. You can get into some lovely positions."

77. INT. MEDICAL

BEN: "What happened to the Commander on the Eagle? Do you suppose it could have anything to do with Sandstrom going berserk?"
HELENA: "In what way?"
BEN: "Well, could it be infectious? Contagious?"
HELENA: "I found no evidence of virus or bacteria in John's blood samples."
The machine bleeps loudly. Koenig stirs.
KOENIG (waking): "Helena.."
HELENA: "How do you feel?"
KOENIG: "You tell me."
HELENA: "You look great to me. You're fine." ((she removes the head band; he starts to sit up)) "Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. Let's get this off of you. Come on." ((Helena & Ben remove electrodes))
KOENIG: "Okay."
HELENA: "Gently."
KOENIG: "Ohh."
HELENA: "Fine?"
KOENIG: "Yep. Eagle Ten?"
BEN: "Totalled."
HELENA: "What happened, John?"
KOENIG: "How long was I out?"
HELENA: "Just over five hours."
KOENIG: "Five hours."
BEN: "You're lucky. Your skull took quite a banging."
HELENA: "Without this complex it could have been weeks. John, what happened?"
KOENIG: "What do you mean, what happened? Everyone must have seen what happened. Rocket malfunction." ((they are silent)) "Well, that's what it was, wasn't it?"
HELENA: "The investigation crew found no evidence of rocket malfunction."
KOENIG: "That means pilot error. That's terrific."
HELENA: "John, it wasn't pilot error. We don't know what happened. You seemed to have lost control of yourself."
KOENIG: "I don't remember anything other than going out to check that neutron count."
HELENA: "John."
KOENIG: "Yeah."
HELENA: "A rescue expedition has landed here on Alpha from Earth."
KOENIG: "What?"
HELENA: "From Earth. They came in a Superswift."
KOENIG: "Superswift?"
HELENA: "Tony's brother, Guido, captained it, and Doctor Shaw is here."
KOENIG: "Doctor Shaw?"
HELENA: "You remember Doctor Shaw. I told you all about Doctor Shaw."
KOENIG: "Of course I remember Doctor Shaw. Very, very well indeed."
HELENA: "And Sahn's fiancee, Peter.."
KOENIG: "Sahn's fiancee."
HELENA: "And Professor Hunter."
KOENIG: "Professor Hunter.."
HELENA: "And, um,..Diana Morris."
KOENIG: "Diana Morris? Well, well. Now Helena, please don't even joke about that barracuda... Only you're not joking. You really mean it. You mean they...somehow something worked.." ((stands))
HELENA: "Yes."
KOENIG: "You mean they got it licked? They're really here?"
HELENA: "Yes."
KOENIG: "And we can get back to Earth?"
HELENA: "Yes."
KOENIG: "Oh, ho, Helena." ((they embrace, laughing)) "Helena."
HELENA: "Yes, yes, yes, yes. yes."
KOENIG: "Helena."
HELENA: "Oh.." ((they kiss))

78. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

EHRLICH (guiding Diana in a golf stroke): "Okay, now. Give it to me, give it to me. Give it to me. Keep your arms straight, the arms straight, and then get your eye on the ball."

79. INT. CORRIDOR

HELENA (as they walk to Command Centre): "I didn't know you had such a big thing going with Diana Morris."
KOENIG: "I didn't want to bore you with my romantic past."
HELENA: "I wouldn't have thought she was your type."
KOENIG: "We were childhood sweethearts."
HELENA: "Diana Morris was never a child."
KOENIG: "Would you believe we met in a jazz ballet group at M.I.T.?"
HELENA (laughs): "Oh, you liar."
KOENIG: "I'm not a liar."

80. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

WOMAN: "The Commander's on his way." ((Koenig & Helena enter)) "Hello!"
TONY: "John, good to see you back."
DIANA (advancing to him): "John...darling.."
KOENIG: "Don't come near me, stay away from me."
TONY: "John. My brother, Guido. What's the matter, John? This is Guido, my brother." ((Koenig sees a slimy monster)) "Are you alright?"
KOENIG (Koenig sees monsters): "Stay back, don't come near me."
ALAN: "What's the matter, John?"
KOENIG: "Alan, what' the matter with you? Tony? Helena? Maya? What's the matter with you?"
TONY (to Helena): "What's wrong with him?"
HELENA: "He was fine."
TONY: "Why ,he's as erratic as he was up in the Eagle." ((to Koenig)) "John. They're friends."
KOENIG: "Tony...they're not your friends..they're horrible. Ugly, hideous."
TONY: "Alright, take it easy, John. Just calm down, everything's going to be alright."
KOENIG: "Listen to me! Listen to me! Tony!"
TONY: "Will you just calm down.." ((Koenig pushes him back against a desk))
ALAN: "John." ((Alan goes up to him, but is thrown against the computer))
KOENIG: "Clear the Command Centre!"
HELENA: "John!"
KOENIG: "Helena, stay behind me. Stay behind me." ((goes to his desk & presses button))
VOICE OVER: "Weapons Section."
KOENIG: "Arm all lasers."

EXT. MOON SURFACE (SFX)

Laser turret rises.

80. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

KOENIG: "Destroy that alien ship."
-Big Screen (SFX): alien ship.
-Command Centre: Alphans look.
-Big Screen (SFX, sc 81): Superswift.
-Command Centre (sc 82):
TONY: "Weapons Section, abort laser gun."
KOENIG: "Damn you, Tony. I'm in command!"
ALAN (coming up behind & holding him): "John. John, it's alright."
KOENIG: "Alan!"
Koenig breaks the hold. A guard approach, but Koenig twists his arm behind him so he drops his stun gun, then throws him at the computer, causing a small explosion.
KOENIG: "Get clear, Tony." ((aims his own laser at Superswift crew))
TONY: "John, no."
Helena fires a yellow beam at Koenig. He falls.

ACT FOUR

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Moon.
HELENA (VO): "Status Report."

EXT. MOONBASE ALPHA (SFX)

HELENA (VO): "Supplemental. John Koenig continues his odd behaviour. He has no awareness that he acted strangely just before his crash. With great reluctance I have put him in restraint."

83. INT. MEDICAL

KOENIG (writhing, delirious): "Got to get out of here..out of here...things to be done..answers, answers, got to find answers.."
TONY: "John, take it easy. It's alright."
KOENIG: "Danger..danger..the entire base.. It's in danger..."
TONY: "Helena, can't you do something?"
KOENIG: "Everybody on the base.."
HELENA: "I'm trying, Tony."
BEN: "His blood pressure's up. His adrenalin level is very high."
KOENIG: "Got to get out..g-got to get out.." ((wakes)) "Helena."
HELENA: "Yes, John. Now, please, just take it easy."
KOENIG: "Those things out there..what are they? ..What do they want?"
TONY: "Now, John, will you listen to me. Those are people out there form Earth. Now you know some of them. They've come to take us home."
KOENIG: "They're not people! Are you blind?"
HELENA: "John, please, trust us."
KOENIG: "Why can't you see what you've got out there?"
HELENA: "Doctor Shaw. Would you please assist me."
Shaw walks up: Koenig sees the monster approach him.
KOENIG: "Get that out of here!...Get that out of here!...Get that out of here!!...Get out of here!!...Get it out of here!!"
HELENA: "I'm sorry, Doctor Shaw."
SHAW: "Of course, Helena." ((leaves))
TONY (to Helena): "He's the last man I would have suspected to flip out."
KOENIG: "Tony, Helena, let me out of here, please! I've got to get out of here! I've got to get out of here. Helena." ((she approaches with sedative)) "No! No! Please..no.." ((falls asleep))

84. INT. RECORDS LAB

Guido looks in window as Kander sits before a screen, feeling his neck uncomfortably.

INT. COMMAND CENTRE

SHAW (enters): "If you didn't let Ben Vincent out of your range, Koenig would be dead now."
LOUISA (nods at Alan): "He interfered."
DIANA: "He escaped the Eagle crash we arranged and now this. He is a hard man to kill, this John Koenig."
LOUISA: "We have the range to control him. Why fear him?"
SHAW: "He is a strong leader. His mind is no longer under our control. Something has interfered."
HUNTER (enters): "He's in position now." ((Shaw & Hunter leave))

INT. CORRIDOR

Shaw walks up to Guido, by the Records Lab window.
GUIDO: "There is resistance. I need help."

85. INT. MEDICAL

Helena stands over Koenig, with Alan & Tony.
TONY: "Helena, could that medical apparatus have..aggravated his condition?"
HELENA: "The complex was tested extensively. Ellendorf's results were quite impressive. I just don't know, Tony."
ALAN: "His mind. Oh, it wouldn't just cave in, not John Koenig."

84. INT. RECORDS LAB

Kander looks at his screen.
On the screen is a shot of the smoking crashed eagle in front of the waste domes.
Kander feels his temple. Beyond Shaw & Guido watch him. He puts in another card.
On the screen is a picture of a waste dome.
Kander puts in another card.
On the screen is a picture of the aliens in Command Centre.
Kander recoils back. He reaches the door: his movements stiffen, his face loses expression. His hand hits the door panel causing a small explosion. He opens a hatch marked 'Emergency Depressurisation Unit' & releases the valve of an oxygen cylinder: he cups the released gas in his hands & sips it. G Allen passes Shaw & Guido. Kander starts smashing his desk.

INT. CORRIDOR

G Allen walks up to the comms post.
MAYA (on screen): "Command Centre?"
ALLEN: "Maya. We've got trouble in the Records Lab."

INT. RECORDS LAB

Behind, Kander continues smashing equipment.

85. INT. MEDICAL

TONY (to Alan): "But how do you explain that wild ride of his in Eagle Ten? And his claim that Guido and the others are monsters?"
MAYA (on comms post screen): "Tony. I'm at the Records Lab. We have an emergency."

INT. RECORDS LAB

Kander smashes the screen & other equipment.

86. INT. CORRIDOR

Ben & others run up to the Records corridor, & the small crowd watching through the window. Yellow suited 'Rescue' men try to force open the door.
TONY (arriving): "Maya, what's happened?"
MAYA: "He's jammed the lock on his side."
SHAW (to Guido): "We can't control all of them at the same time. Concentrate on Kander."
ALAN (arriving): "What's happening?"
BEN: "Kander's trapped inside."
ALAN: "Stand back, I'll blast it open."
TONY: "Alan, wait! The Emergency Oxygen Supply, he's got it full on. You'll blow the whole place to pieces."
MAYA: "Tony. I can get through the air vent."
She becomes an insect. Tony puts her on the floor by the vent.
SHAW (astonished): "She's a metamorph."

87. INT. RECORDS LAB

The insect transforms into Maya. She goes to the door, but Kander throws her away. She becomes a lizard animal. Kander recoils into the door control, which explodes.

88. INT. CORRIDOR

The door opens & flames flare out. Burning, Kander staggers out & falls, his back on fire. The lizard follows him out, then fire flares out of the doorway. Firemen run up & spray Kander, before entering the lab. Ben inspects him.
BEN: "He's dead."

89. INT. RECORDS LAB

Close on projector screen in flames.

90. INT. CORRIDOR

GUIDO (draws Tony aside): "Tony, I'm sorry about this tragedy you've just had."
SHAW: "I know this isn't the time to talk about other matters, but we're rapidly getting out of the range of Earth, and if we're going to get you all home, we have to address ourselves to the problem."
GUIDO: "There's a pilot ship that will go first, there'll be room for three people on it. If there's anyone you'd like to suggest? Tony, you should get to it as soon as possible."
TONY: "Yeah. Okay." ((he leaves them))

91. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

TONY: "Alright, everybody, this is it. You ready?" ((shakes a small box)) "I think I'm more nervous than anybody." ((takes a slip from a small box: it reads 'Stoner')) "Ehrlich."
EHRLICH (he kisses Diana & shakes Henry): "Yippee! Pebble beach here I come!"
TONY (takes slip: 'McCarthy'): "Bartlett." ((Bartlett smiles; Sandra takes his shoulder; Tony takes a slip reading 'Allday')) "Carter."
KEN: "You did it, Alan, fantastic!"
VARIOUS personnel: "Home at last!"
TONY (to Guido): "Well, you win some, you lose some."

92. INT. MEDICAL

Koenig lies before Helena, Ben & Tony.
KOENIG: "Eyes clear? Pulse rate normal?"
HELENA: "Yes."
KOENIG: "Blood pressure down?"
BEN: "Yes."
KOENIG: "Do I seem rational to you?"
TONY: "Yes."
KOENIG: "Fine. Now will you believe that when I look at your friends from Earth, I don't see what you see?"
HELENA: "What do you see?"
KOENIG: "Something hideous, something ugly, and..horrendous and hostile and deadly. Now, please listen to me, please listen to me. Look, please let me get out of here!" ((Helena takes hypodermic)) "No, please, don't do that, don't do that, please, please, don't do that. Don't do that." ((calms himself)) "Look...don't you find it very strange that all the personnel on the rescue ship are people you know? I mean close relatives and friends. What do you think the odds are against it..aren't they pretty heavy?"
TONY: "Not really. They're all volunteers, john. They specifically asked to come."
KOENIG: "Fine. Okay, fine. What about the pilot ship? You said you drew lots to see who would go first?"
TONY: "Yes."
KOENIG: "And Ehrlich, Bartlett and Alan were the winners?"
TONY: "That's right."
KOENIG: "Now don't you find that strange? The three men chosen are members of the radioactive monitoring team? Isn't that strange?"
TONY: "John, I drew the names."
KOENIG: "What's the matter with you, can't you see you're being manipulated? What's happened to your instincts? Why won't you listen to me? You're all blind!"

INT. COMMAND CENTRE

The staff & Superswift crew all watch the screen.
ALAN (VO): "Hey, all systems are go here."
-Big Screen (SFX): Superswift.
ALAN (VO): "What's the hold up, Alpha?"

92. INT. MEDICAL

SANDRA (on comms post): "Tony. The pilot ship is ready for lift off."
KOENIG: "Tony. Don't. Don't let them go. Don't let them go, please! Helena, don't let them go! No, no, no! Don't let them go!" ((Helena sedates him))

93. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

Tony enters & puts his arm round Maya, watching the Big Screen.

94. EXT. LAUNCH PAD (SFX)

Close on top of Superswift as pilot ship rises from it.

INT. PILOT SHIP

Alan, Bartlett, Ehrlich.

95. INT. COMMAND CENTRE

-Command Centre: bursts into cheers & applause.
-Big Screen (SFX): pilot ship leaves Superswift on pad.
-Command Centre: jubilation, kisses.

96. EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Pilot ship.

INT. PILOT SHIP

96. EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Pilot ship flies over lunar hills.

97. EXT. MOON SURFACE

Aliens slither on surface.

98. INT. MEDICAL

(Living quarters) Hunter watches Sandstrom, asleep on a bed & tied in restraints. Hunter leaves the room. Sandstrom heaves & breaks his restraints. He leaves.

Pilot ship.

They watch.

101. EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Earth.
ALAN (VO): "There it is. Earth."

102. INT. PILOT SHIP

ALAN: "Did you ever see such a beautiful sight?"
BARTLETT: "It's incredible."
EHRLICH: "It's only been a few hours, hasn't it? Or has it?"
ALAN: "Well, that's what they said the breakthrough they made was all about, time." ((blows kiss))

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Earth.
ALAN (VO): "Don't you go away, blue eyes."

102. INT. PILOT SHIP

EHRLICH: "I've got to tell the guys back on Alpha about this. Hey, you guys. It's beautiful."

EXT. SPACE (SFX)

Earth.
EHRLICH: "It's beautiful."

103. INT. CORRIDOR

Sandstrom hides round a corner as Tony & Maya walk up.
TONY: "Maybe this'll convince John, now that somebody's actually seen Earth again."
Sandstrom appears & hits Tony in the stomach & over the head. He scrambles for Tony's gun but Maya kicks it from him & him to the ground. She poses in back stance. Close on her eyes.
A kendoka waves the point of his staff at Sandstrom. He approaches & is hit in the stomach. Maya then makes a vertical down strike. Sandstrom gets up. Maya wheels the staff, then slows it to focus on Sandstrom's face. As he attacks she hits him in the stomach. She focuses the point of the staff on the fallen man's temple.
Tony rises to see Maya, as herself, pointing a small perspex pen-like object at Sandstrom on the floor.
MAYA: "Are you alright?"
TONY: "Oh, terrific. What the hell happened?"
MAYA: "I hit him with my stick."

104/106. INT. MEDICAL


Shaw enters & walks to Koenig. The alien squelches up to Koenig. He awakes & reacts in horror, trapped by the restraints. Slowly it moves to smother him.
