2000 AD was a British weekly comic which started in 1977. The comic launched the careers of a number of British and European artists, including Kevin O'Neill, who drew the cover for this 1978 Sci-Fi Special. In 1974 he had visited Pinewood and Bray during filming of Space: 1999. Several artists included Eagle-like craft in their strips, and the 1978 Special included a truncated Hawk in their "MACH-1" strip (the character was inspired by The Six Million Dollar Man, and had veered into stronger science fiction bringing in several other references). There was also an unusual space chicks feature, including a couple of Space 1999 pictures.
