Star trek for six-year-old Candy

Tiny Candy Wilson was over the moon when she landed a starring role in TV's science fiction serial Space 1999.

Candy, aged six, of Springfield Road, Hanwell, was spotted by the programme's talent scouts in October, at the Corona Academy, Chiswick.

When she was signed up for last Saturday's episode. Candy soon realised it's not who you know in the business but who you look like.

She was chosen to play the pint sized double of the serial's beautiful alien. Maya, from planet Psychon

The mysterious Maya. can change herself into any living form, Candy's talents were called in when Maya transforms. herself into a young child to get out of a tight corner.

The programme was filmed last year, when Candy was five. The role meant a trip to Pinewood Studios, and an eight hour stint on the set.

Even then Candy had to work extra hard to clinch the role. Another child actress was lined up to audition.

After an hour in the make-up chair, the duo were judged, and the TV moguls agreed Candy looked most like Maya

On Saturday, Candy and school friends from St Marks. Hanwell, settled down to watch her IV debut.

Candy earned £10 for her role, and is already looking around for other parts.

Meanwhile she is settling down to tap dancing lessons at the academy to add to her repertoire.

Candy started going to the academy two years ago. She concentrated on dancing and singing. and saw herself as Hanwell's answer to Shirley Temple.

Since her TV debut the bright six-year-old has re-thought her future, and confidently says she intends to be a famous actress.

While Mum is proud of Candy's success, she does not want her daughter to take up the acting game full time.

At least not until she is out of her gym-slip
