British Mad, 185

Mad magazine was a hugely influential satirical comic book, first published in the US in 1952. In 1959, the first foreign edition appeared in the UK, reprinting US material and adding local content. The British edition covered Space: 1999 in 1975, alongside the King Kong remake. This strip was written by Hitch Hitchings and drawn by Alf Saporito. Non-Brits may be confused by references to Dennis Healey (politician), Hughie Greene (TV presenter) and Coronation Street (TV soap opera). There a some good jokes (especially the dig at Helena's range of expression...) but overall it lacks the humour of their film adaptions.

Other comic books based on the Mad-formula were Cracked, and Marvel's Crazy
