Titles and Credits

Original titles

Some early prints of Matter of Life And Death featured an alternative title and end credit sequence. These were very different to the final titles.

The title is in an angular typeface (Futura Black, used for the "This Episode" and "September 13th 1999" caption in the completed version). Note the higher, more distant view of Moonbase Alpha in the title shot, the different planet (Tora from The Seance Spectre) and the title does not contain a colon. The clapperboard shows the Moonbase shot was filmed on 14 February 1974.

Year 1 alternative titles The alternate and final titles start identically, with only the font different. The original font is the angular Braggadocio, with surnames in capitals (similar to Futura Black, used for the This Episode caption). The final titles are (probably) Futura Heavy, mixed case. The familiar sloping titles are completely different in the original, in the Futura Black typeface. There is a much higher view of Moonbase Alpha, and a different planet, streaked with clouds, rather than the blue planet. The planet will eventually appear in Year 2 as Tora from The Seance Spectre.

The "This Episode" clips are identical. The caption is on a black background (like Breakaway), but is the same mixed case as the other episodes (Breakaway was lower-case).
