The main set of photos come from Plymouth UK's ArmadaCon, a multimedia convention
which is 15 years old this year (2003).These outfits are predominantly season
two as they are a greater challenge to a costume maker. The Rust costume (right)
was made to measure. The rust costume on the girl without glasses was made
as an extra for season two The Reconnaissance costume was made to fit me.
The security the girl had meant to alter hers and never did. I made the basic
item which you see here. The Season One Commander's uniform was the first
of this new batch I made in 1998. I first attempted to make such uniforms
in the late 1980s and early 1990s and I cannot say I was too happy with the
result.
The year previously we did a group entry in the Masquerade with spacesuit
(minus helmet) and Journey to
Where costume (left).
The spacesuit was made in 1996/1997? I am considering making a new one.
The back and front packs need repair. The spacesuit collar is made with embroidery
hoops, aluminium tape, and plasticard plastic covered wire stitched into the
cloth to form bellows.
My wife has made a copy of Maya's dress from The
Metamorph. She dyed some feather bowers to get the grey shade needed for
the dress, destroying two hairdryers in the process, to get the fullness she
needed.
I have more recently made a copy of Lee Russell's outfit from Matter
of Life and Death. These are my attempt at two embroidered patches needed
for the Lee Russell jumpsuit
