Collins doesn't die in the episode- he is stunned and dragged out of the depot - but the Meta probe "virus" seems to be fatal. In the script titled "Turning Point", his character name was Simpson. In the 22 November 1973 script titled "Breakaway", his character name was Carter, and he was played by Nick Tate.
