SPAZIO 1999 è il titolo di una fortunata serie televisiva che, realizzata dalla nostra RAI-TV in coproduzione con la televisione inglese, ha ottenuto una vastissima popolarità in tutti i paesi dove è stata presentata. In questo libro sono raccolti alcuni tra i più significativi episodi della strana avventura della base Alfa. Costruita sulla Luna per controllare la pericolosità delle scorie atomiche che vi sono seppellite, è stata sbalzata nello spazio dalle immani esplosioni che hanno sradicato il nostro pianeta dalla sua orbita, lanciandolo in una cosa senza meta nel cosmo.
La vita su Alfa è assicurata dalle risorse della tecnologia più avanzata, ma non ha nessun futuro.

SPAZIO 1999 is the title of a successful television series which, created by our RAI-TV in co-production with English television, has achieved enormous popularity in all the countries where it has been presented. This book contains some of the most significant episodes of the strange adventure of the Alfa base. Built on the Moon to control the dangers of the atomic waste buried there, it was blasted into space by the huge explosions that uprooted our planet from its orbit, launching it aimlessly into the cosmos.
Life on Alfa is ensured by the resources of the most advanced technology, but it has no future.

L'insidia di oscure presenze extraterrestri, i pericoli delle radiazioni e la speranze di trovare un nuovo pianeta accogliente, sono i temi fondamentali del racconto che ruota interno alla figura del comandante John Koenig, dell'astronauta Alan Carter, della dottoressa Helena Russel, e del professore Victor Bergman, singolare e umanissimo scienziato.
L'azione é carica di suspence e si svolge tra i colpi di scena che le illustrazioni, tratte dai fotogrammi delle pellicole televisive a colori, trasmettono con l'immediatezza di un reportage nel nostro futuro più imprevedibile. Una appendice scientifica mette in chiaro tutti i problemi tecnici trattati nel corso del racconto.

The threat of dark extraterrestrial presences, the dangers of radiation and the hope of finding a new welcoming planet are the fundamental themes of the story which revolves around the figure of commander John Koenig, astronaut Alan Carter, doctor Helena Russel, and of Professor Victor Bergman, singular and very human scientist.
The action is full of suspense and takes place among the twists and turns that the illustrations, taken from colour television film frames, convey with the immediacy of a reportage into our most unpredictable future. A scientific appendix clarifies all the technical problems discussed during the story.
