The Catacombs Catacombs Model Gallery
Exhibitions

The National Film and Sci-Fi Museum was opened on 26 August 2021, in a location next to the central Milton Keynes shopping centre, and easily accessible by public transport from London. It is normally open on Fridays, Saturday and Sunday. Among the many original props is the original Moonbase Alpha, and a full-sized replica moonbuggy.

2024 leaflet. Attached to the museum is "Pixel Bunker", with retro arcade games. A new companion exhibit will be devoted to Lego (in construction 2024).

The gift shop is full of current and vintage toys, but the only Space: 1999 items for sale (September 2024) were a good selection of patches.

The highlight of the display is the original Moonbase Alpha model, cleaned and re-assembled for the first time since the series. The launch pads, lunar surface and tiny Eagles have been added for this display, and contain a number of "easter eggs" to spot, including an Eagle crash.

The astronaut costume is original - although the helmet says "Carter" it is Zienia Merton's suit. The astronaut wears an original backpack, but you can't see it. The Helena costume is also original.

In the display cabinets in front are various models, mostly replicas (the Eagle, Hawk and laser tank). A few models are original, including an Alpha building (the fuel store, the travel tube corridor, and a 44" Eagle pallet pod.

The moonbuggy is also a replica (the original is in Italy). The main difference to the original is the wide seat-back, stretching the full length of the vehicle.
