DEATH'S OTHER DOMINION

Compare with ITC summary.

On a planet of ice, Koenig and his colleagues discover members of an earlier space probe from Earth who are about to begin a timeless journey across the infinity of space.

Computer readings on a new planet encountered by Moonbase Alpha indicate that temperatures there drop to 200 degrees below zero. Commander Koenig (Martin Landau) is therefore surprised to receive a signal, then a human voice announcing that there is life on the planet, which is called Ultima Thule. They are invited to share a lost paradise - and Koenig decides to investigate.

Together with Dr. Helena Russell (Barbara Bain), Professor Bergman (Barry Morse) and Alan Carter (Nick Tate), he lands on the planet's surface, which is deep in snow and ice, hidden in an impenetrably thick mist, with the wind howling. Lost, and in danger of being frozen to death, they are brought to a huge ice palace furnished like a spaceship. There they meet Dr. Cabot Rowland (Brian Blessed) and Captain Jack Tanner (John Shrapnel) who are members of a space expedition from Earth that was launched in 1986 and believed to have been lost in a proton storm. Instead they were trapped in a time warp and in the intervening 13 years have traveled 880 years. They cannot die! Now they are about to launch a probe spanning the entire solar system, crossing from one galaxy to the next... a feat made possible by their immortality.

Koenig is tempted to join them but finds dissidents on the planet, including a beautiful woman named Freda (Mary Miller) who makes them aware of the living graveyard for victims who have sacrificed their minds to the science of Ultima Thule and are now nothing more than vegetables.

ALPHA CHILD

Compare with ITC summary.

The first baby born on the moon startles everyone with its amazing development, and heralds an alien war in which, no matter who wins, Alpha loses!

Cynthia Crawford (Cyd Hayman) is the first woman on the moon to become a mother, but Jackie (Wayne Brooks) is an extraordinary child. Within hours he grows into a five-year-old boy who draws an amazingly detailed picture of an advanced spaceship. Soon, four ships exactly like Jackie's picture appear in the space sky. They hover menacingly just above the moon's surface, and resist all attempts to repel them.

As Commander Koenig (Martin Landau) launches an attack on the alien ships, the child grows into a mature man who announces that his name is Jarak (Julian Glover). He forces Helena Russell (Barbara Bain) to warn Koenig that unless he calls off the attack, Alpha will be destroyed.

He then demands to be taken to Cynthia Crawford, who dies when she sees him and is immediately revitalized into a beautiful creature who greets Jarak warmly. He addresses her as Rena and explains that they are involuntary travelers through space, seeking a physical form in which to conceal their own identities. On their planet they faced extermination because they were different and now 120 of them are running away from the ruthlessly imposed genetic conformity.

Their plan is to take over the bodies of those on Moonbase Alpha and the moments of birth and death are ideally suited to this purpose. More deaths are planned, to accomodate Jarak's companions in the hovering spaceships. However, a blinding flash warns Jarak that his people's enemies have caught up with them. Six more spaceships arrive and the war of the aliens rages. The outcome will decide the fate of Alpha as well as that of the fugitives.
