THE BLACK SUN

Compare with ITC summary.. The correct title is "Black Sun", not "The Black Sun".

The runaway moon is being sucked into a whirlpool-like phenomenon of space which devours everything: light, time, space... and matter.

The runaway moon is being drawn into the center of a huge, black, gaseous phenomenon known and feared in space as a "black sun." An Eagle spacecraft on reconnaissance is sucked into it and disintegrates. Commander Koenig (Martin Landau) estimates that they have three days to find a way of avoiding the same fate. Professor Bergman (Barry Morse) comes up with a desperate scheme to erect seven antigravity towers that will stabilize Moonbase Alpha's gravity and create a new forcefield.

Because it is only an outside chance, Koenig decides to launch another Eagle so that six members of his complement might survive and find another planet. He chooses those with the best potential for survival and assigns Dr. Helena Russell (Barbara Bain) to its crew. With Alan Carter (Nick Tate) in command, the Eagle takes off, leaving the others behind to test Professor Bergman's theory.

When the moon is drawn into the black sun, Koenig and Bergman realize that they have become transparent. All sounds stop. With startling rapidity, they appear to evolve into beings who are eons old. Koenig begins to understand that the whole universe may be nothing else than living thought. With Bergman, he walks among the stars, believing that every star can be a cell in the brain of the universe. He hears a child's voice saying "I am the known and the unknown; the seen and the unseen. All things come from me. I am not part of them."

When the child is gone, Koenig finds he and Bergman are "normal" again. They are through the black sun: the forcefield has held! Now they must find the Eagle and its occupants.

COLLISION COURSE

Compare with ITC summary.

Koenig meets with the eons-old Queen of an enormous planet to avoid collision of their worlds, only to learn that she has been awaiting it for millions of years!

While off the moon in an Eagle, Astronaut Alan Carter (Nick Tate) is given up for lost, then saved through the intervention of an aged alien woman called Arra (Margaret Leighton). It is discovered that the moon is on a collision course with the enormous planet Astheria, of which Arra is Queen. Professor Bergman (Barry Morse) determines that the only way to avoid disaster is to plant a chain of nuclear mines in space which, when detonated, would create a shockwave and change the planet's trajectory. But Sandra Benes (Zienia Merton) reports signs of life on the planet and the plan is postponed.

Commander Koenig (Martin Landau) sets out to investigate the planet and is intercepted by a huge spaceship which has come from Astheria. In its vast interior, he meets Arra who tells him that their destinies are predetermined and that her people have expected him for millions of years. Their separate planets, she says, have met in the body of time for the great purpose of mutation. The change will reverberate through the galaxies of eternity.

Koenig is persuaded by Arra to allow their worlds to collide and he returns to Alpha to cancel the mine operation. Dr. Russell (Barbara Bain) hears his story along with the others and attributes it to hallucinations due to radiation sickness. He is relieved of his command. As the countdown for firing the mines is being made, he executes a desperate maneuver and aborts the operation. Now it is too late to alter the collision course and the incredible mass of Astheria collides with the moon... with an amazing result!
