THE LAMBDA FACTOR

Compare with ITC summary.

A cosmic cloud gives an Alpha technician paranormal super powers, driving her mad with desires to control everyone on Moonbase Alpha.

Crossing an area of deep space, the moon slowly drifts through an ominous gas cloud. On Moonbase Alpha, instruments start to malfunction and a few cases of insubordination are reported. Suddenly a major tragedy: a pretty, young medical technician dies a violent death in inexplicable circumstances. An autopsy reveals that she was killed by a very powerful force, but Dr. Russell has no clue as to what it was.

Meanwhile, Commander Koenig begins to suffer from terrible nightmares: tormenting visions of two old friends whom he had to leave behind on a Venus expedition. They had contracted a fatal disease and Koenig had to let them die rather than chance a spread of the disease to Earth. Now, many years later he sees them in his dreams - horrible twisted faces distorted with screams of anguish.

First Officer Verdeschi begins an investigation and questions Mark Sanders and Carolyn Powell. Mark was engaged to the late technician but took to Carolyn with an overly friendly relationship. Both admit that there was friction among the three but deny any suggestion that they had a hand in the actual death. Maya is not sure and suspects Carolyn of evil doings.

Captain Carter then reports that most of his Eagles are non-operational and sabotage is immediately suspected. While Alan works in Engineering Section 1, the whine of an atomic engine begins to increase, approaching the danger level. Alan hits the alarm but nothing happens. He tries desperately to wrench loose the power cable but hasn't the strength. He runs to the door but it doesn't open. Luckily Alan's frantic hammering is heard by Maya, who transforms into a gigantic space creature and smashes open the door, ripping out the power cables.

Now Koenig and Russell detect something is affecting the entire base and they call a top security command conference. Maya reports that her sensors are picking up Lambda waves emitted from the surrounding cloud. Dr. Helena Russell realizes that these intense waves could affect certain people who have highly developed ESP potential, increasing this potential into paranormal super powers. After conducting experiments, she deduces that Carolyn shows a tremendous increase in ESP power.

Later that evening, Mark and Carolyn have a terrible argument and, as Mark leaves to walk away, Carolyn concentrates on her newfound super powers, crushing him with incredible forces.

When Mark is found dead, Tony tries to arrest Carolyn but she escapes to Main Mission Command Center and takes over Moonbase Alpha. Koenig now realizes that his nightmares and visions are a result of Lambda wave influences on his psyche and goes to Main Mission for the final battle for control of Alpha.

THE IMMUNITY SYNDROME

Compare with ITC summary.

John and Tony are trapped on a planet stalked by an awesome creature and haunted by an ancient alien mystery.

An Earth-type planet is spotted and Commander John Koenig sets up camp to explore this possible new home. First Officer Verdeschi goes to explore the surrounding area with a security team, only to find an unusual trail of glowing lights. The lights grow more intense until the men are completely bathed in an eerie iridescence. As the light decreases, the team lies dead and Tony begins to laugh crazily, crashing through alien undergrowth which rips and tears his clothes.

Captain Alan Carter and Koenig discover Tony almost dead and immediately prepare to return him to Alpha. They blast off in Eagle One and head for space, but the Eagle begins to malfunction. Carter sees that the metal is corroding and is disintegrating. He heads the Eagle back towards the planet but it breaks apart before landing, spinning John, Tony and Alan over the rough planet surface. The landing party rush to their aid. Reports that all metal is disintegrating come from the base camp.

Maya on Alpha reports that the atmosphere is starting to turn poisonous and the food and water may be contaminated. They must return now! When John reports Tony's strange affliction, Maya convinces Dr. Helena Russell that they must get to the planet with proper medical gear. Alpha Engineering Section comes up with a space glider that could hold the two women plus gear and Maya orders it ready.

Meanwhile, Alan has discovered a geodesic structure and has entered to find uniformed skeletons and holographic recording equipment. He activates a recorder and discovers that these people were also looking for a new world but were destroyed by a creature of incredible power. On Alpha, Eagle 8 takes off with the glider inside; then in deep space the glider is ejected toward the planet. The glider levels off and skims along the ground as the fuselage slides between two trees, tearing off the wings and throwing the cockpit 300 feet away.

John now decides that he must confront this creature and make contact. He must convince it to let the Alphans go but how can he protect himself and how can he protect Alpha?
