The Catacombs Breakaway Lost Scenes

This is a different version of scene 5, with Koenig in the Eagle passenger module flying to take up his command at Alpha. He is watching a newscast from Earth. The newscaster is played by Shane Rimmer (the voice of the pilot in the final episode, and Kelly in Space Brain).

The newscaster is talking: "...that the long-prepared for space mission to Meta would be delayed no more than forty-eight hours. Commissioner Simmonds, can you now tell us more about Meta ..."

"Yes..." But Simmonds is muted as the stewardess approaches.

Breakaway

"Commander, touchdown at Moonbase Alpha will be at twenty three thirty five lunar time."

"Fine, thank you." says Koenig.

The sound resumes on the broadcast, as Simmonds says "..has approached much closer to our own solar system, now the reason for this.." (the take ends)

This is the start of the scene, with the full dialogue of the newscast which would have been muted when the stewardess talks to Koenig.

The newscaster begins: "It was announced today that the two probe astronauts of the Meta mission have contracted a mild viral infection during training. Lunar Commissioner Gerald Simmonds has reported though that the long-prepared for space mission to Meta would be delayed no more than forty-eight hours. Commissioner Simmonds, can you now tell us a little more about Meta ..."

"Yes, I'd be very happy to. Meta is a rogue planet, which has broken away from some distant galaxy. However, it's trajectory has brought it much closer to our own solar system. The reason why we don't as yet know. But we have for the first time received identifiable signals which indicate a high form of life on another planet. From Earth's Space Research Centre at Moonbase Alpha, we intend to explore that planet and indeed, John Koenig, our first Alpha Commander, is already returning to the Moonbase in order to supervise this, the most important space journey in the history of man."
