Carole Abbs was part of the committee of a Star Trek convention, Terracon, in Leeds in October 1976. She invited Nick to the convention. Nick agreed that Carole could run his fan club, the British Nick Tate Club (see her account). The first newsletter was Spring 1977. Since 1978 it was run by Eileen Skidmore and Phyl Proctor. The club was renamed to the International Nick Tate Club at the end of 1988. Eileen and Phyl continued to produce quarterly newsletters for 39 years.
