The Production GuideThe shooting schedule was issued on 22nd September 1976, for filming the following week. The schedule anticipated 10 days.
This schedule didn't get off to a good start, because on the start date of Tuesday 28th September they were still finishing the "steel corridor" scenes from The Bringers of Wonder part 2. Shooting actually started the next day, on Wednesday 29th September. As usual, this schedule slipped. Instead of just two days in Command Center, filming stretched to four days (Wednesday 29th to Monday 4th). Originally intended to end on 11th October, main shooting finally finished on Friday 15th October.
A "progressive shooting schedule" was published on Thursday 7th October (day 7 of filming), covering the rest of filming: finishing scenes in Koenig's quarters before moving to Engineering on Friday 8th and Monday 11th, the newly written Research Room scene on Tuesday 12th. The Recreation Center scenes were from the 12th to Thursday 14th. Thursday would be an extended day, with the last shots being of the tiger. (Even this schedule slipped, as we'll see).
Scenes were filmed by set, not in story order. The first scenes for Deborah Fallender as Carolyn were the final confrontation in Command Center, while the opening scenes with Sally in the store-room were among the last shots filmed.
This is an episode set entirely in Moonbase Alpha, and in Year 2 almost all Moonbase sets were revamps of the standing sets on stage L. To add more variety, this episode built two new Moonbase sets on stage M, the Medical stores and the Recreation Center (later, a new scene was added, 36A, with another new set, the Research Room). The Recreation Center would then be available for the first day of the new episode, The Seance Spectre, on Monday 18th October.
During filming, a new scene was added with Carolyn's "pressure device", scene 36A, and a new set, the Research Room, built on stage M and filmed on Tuesday 12th October. The scene and set did not exist in the original script or shooting schedule.
In the original script, all the scenes with the ESP testing and the forcefield booth were in Medical Center. It was decided to take advantage of the new set, and the scenes were moved to Recreation Center.
The last shots were scheduled to be the shots of the tiger in the Recreation Center, filmed on Thursday 14th October.
