This is a telegram from Peter Lucas at ITC London to Peter Bennett, dated 4th April 1979. Bennett managed the Landau's contract (their company was called Bellaroma). ITC had already edited the compilation movie Destination Moonbase Alpha and were marketing it. The film was widely publicised, including in the March 1979 editions of Starlog and Starburst. The Landaus were alarmed to hear a theatrical film was made without consulting them. This urgent telegram from ITC, including an offer of $25,000, was made to reassure them.
ITC were following the standard industry convention of claiming the series was not in profit, which avoids paying out profit percentages to the stars.
Space 1999 series two understand your clients Belaroma have mistaken impression we are about to release a theatrical film in the USA made from this series. There is no such luck regrettably, because the correct position is in order to extend television mileage in the USA we have put together the two Bringers Of Wonder episodes under the new title Destination Moonbase Alpha, which hopefully will bring much needed extra receipts to set against the large production cost deficit, helping us and your clients too who get the extra run royalty.
We are now considering rest of world theatrical possibilities, and would be prepared to pay dollars 25,000 fee as per clause eleven of the contract, excluding as you know such releases in the USA/UK.
Please advise reaction soonest
Regards Peter Lucas, Production Administrator ITC London
