These are some of the special effects storyboards for the episode The Taybor. We see the storyboard on the studio wall in this behind the scenes footage filmed on 28 May 1976.
This is the last sheet as it exists today. It includes SFX shots 26-31, plus the opening scenes (slate 3) of Taybor's ship materializing.
Scene 12, slate 3X START.
C.U. Big Screen. Ext. Lunar Surface.
Kaleidoscope of colour hovers above surface.
Scene 59, slate 26X.
Moon buggy approaches camera diagonally - kaleidoscope of colour expands and drops almost enveloping buggy.
As low an angle as poss:
Scene 59, slate 35X.
Kaleidoscope of colour on same lunarscape as 26X and materialises into S.S.Emporium as 26X
Scene 62, slate 27X.
Repeat Scene 33. Taybor's screen.
In scene 33, Taybor and Koenig are in the Emporium, and Taybor shows him the jump drive. In this shot, after the Emporium returns from hyperspace, Taybor shows the jump drive again, before stating what he wants in trade- Maya. The shot is not used in the episode.
Scene 77 START/END, slate 27X.
Establish Moonbase with S.S.Emporium in F/Ground.
Pan to
Koenig standing Moon buggy attaching limpet to S.S.Emporium
Figure to be behind jet nozzle. Left arm moves up.
Unusual two-panel storyboard, also done for scene 80 (Koenig's moonbuggy leaves) with the pan right to left. This is the shot we see being filmed in this behind the scenes footage with a much larger model section of Emporium.
Scene 80 START/END, slate 28X
Start: Koenig in moon buggy returns towards Alpha
Another two panel storyboard, with the first panel being the end position, and the second panel the start.
Scene 98, slate 30X
As scene 12
Scene 12 is above, and shows the kaleidoscope as the Emporium appears. Now it disappears, with Maya as captive. Although specified here to be on the Command Center Big Screen, the shot in the episode (split into two cuts) shows the ship on the lunar surface. This seems to be the same shot as scenes 35 and 37, when Taybor takes Koenig for the first trip, also scripted as Big Screen close-ups.
Scene 100, slate 31X
Track-in on lunar landscape on 35mm. For 16mm B.P.
"Yasko. Scan the area where Taybor's ship was standing." says Koenig. B.P. is back projection. The lunar hills (two dimensional photos) were shot on 35mm film, then a 16mm print was made. The Big Screen here is a special effects model- not the full size screen in the Command Center set. The 16mm film is projected onto the back of the screen, which is then filmed again with a 35mm camera.
