Sanderson leads a "surface exploration unit" (a 4-man crew including Eva Lewis, Cernik and Stevens). The crew live isolated for a month on the lunar surface, presumably doing geological surveys.

According to the 2020 novel Year One story Operation Deliverance by Rupert Booth, Sanderson was second in command of Moonbase Beta, a second lunar base of 50 people doing secret research on a speed of light device. He kills his commander, Preston, after he kills Ouma while trying to take over Moonbase Alpha from Koenig.
