Production GuideThe This Episode sequences in the Year One Titles are an exciting montage of visual highlights. Occasionally alternate takes and cut scenes were included, providing a brief glimpse of what the episodes could have been. Breakaway and Matter Of Life And Death have a high proportion of shots different to the finished episode.
Bergman shows the wave pattern on the screen.
After Mateo is dressed, he tells Helena that Warren must have given Koenig a big push to stop his work. She turns to look at him. The shot is almost identical to the episode, except she turns the other way.
Mateo leaves Medical, still holding the commlock that Helena just handed him. In the episode, we see Helena's point of view as he leaves the door, but then cut to him in the corridor passing other Alphans.
Mateo walks through the corridor and senses a presence behind him. This close up of his back as he turns was not used in the episode.
Mateo rushes out of Hyrdroponics, his hand covered, after threatening Warren. Behind we see Laura running after him. In the episode we see her rush past Warren, but we then cut to Mateo in the corridor, with the Hydroponics doors already closed.
Laura runs around hydroponics, before running to the door where she will encounter the ghost. In the episode, this part is shot in close up.
With a big flash, Mateo and the ghost are thrown from the barriers. We see a couple of small flashes, but the large flash when both fall to the ground is seen looking towards the window where Koenig, Helena and Bergman are watching.
