The crew awake to find the ship floating in space near a giant red star. The power has shut off, the drive units burnt out by the uncontrolled acceleration. They have no idea how long or how far they travelled. The giant star is dragging the Altares towards it.

Harry must go inside the reactor to repair the drive, but he can only survive the temperatures for fifteen minutes at a time.
