What I hoped the second series was to be

This is a draft of a letter from Martin Landau to producer Gerry Anderson, dated Friday 12th November 1976. At this point the second series had started broadcast in the US and UK. They were finishing Devil's Planet. The cast and crew had been told the series was cancelled on 19th October.

We don't have the final form of the letter, or the accompanying article, or the fan's letter. In To Everything That Might Have Been (Hirsch, Wood, 2022), Robert Wood thinks it could be the Daily Variety review from 27 September 1976. There are a number of other press articles around September and October 1976 which are also candidates, including in the San Jose Mercury News, the local newspaper of Los Altos, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Gerry -

Received this article in the mail today from a fan from Los Altos, Calif. - who said in his accompanying letter = that it "documents my (his) feelings about the show quite clearly" -

It is very much in keeping with what I said in your office earlier this week - as to what I had hoped (anticipated) the second series was to be.

No! Michael Musgell is not an alias (pen-name) of mine - nor is he a relative or friend - but he does reflect my sentiments to a degree - in my opinion an ? fairly astute critic. Nor ? have I ever met him.

Interesting! Just wanted you to see it.
