Scene 24A
Two Eagles over moon surface- Alpha base in b/g
Date 21 July 75 (sic) Slate 119x-3 Footage 30'
Eagle 1st pass
Eagle 2nd pass
Alpha base + transflex windows 3rd pass
Stars 4th pass
Script: The two Eagles, one with the object still attached, head out into space, away from the planet and towards a distant Alpha.
Scene 24 is the last shot before the opening titles. This SFX grid, used for planning multiple exposures, is featured in the book The Making of Space: 1999. There is one obvious error (the 1975 date should be 1974). A late July 1974 date fits the filming dates for Last Sunset. The scene number and action do not match the script or the filmed sequence at all. It does resemble scene 26 (below), except the Eagles are moving in the opposite direction. If the scene number is another typo, there are no other scenes in this episode with the Eagles rising above Alpha. It is possible it was a grid rewritten especially for the Making Of book.
Scene 26
Carters Eagle approaches Alpha second Eagle in attendance
A long shot used for the episode titles.
Scene 28A
Burn-In. Carters Eagle hovers over Alpha - Eagle 7 veers off
Intended to be seen on the Big Screen. The actual shot reverses the direction. The smaller Eagle is a photo cut-out.
Scene 31
Landing from "stock"
Filmed, not from stock, as a library shot of a landing Eagle would not have the Ariel satellite attached to the command module. There is an additional closer shot of the Eagle command module as the Eagle descends. The original SFX footage of this shot exists.
