There is little to choose between the sets in terms of picture and sound. Overall the quality is very high. Certain year 1 episodes are too dark in all three sets (the same fault is on the US and Japanese laserdiscs, although not to the same degree). There are some obvious errors with some year 1 episodes, notably the colour shift in Dragon's Domain, visible in all versions.

Unlike the other editions, A&E suffers from variable quality in some year 1 episodes (Alpha Child, Death's Other Dominion). A&E released corrected versions of three episodes on their Bonus Disc. A few Year 2 episodes in the Carlton and other international sets have poorer picture clarity (Devil's Planet). These are corrected in the A&E editions.

A&E DVDs (USA): Generally excellent, but varied in some episodes (colour tone changes, visible grain).

Carlton DVDs (UK): Generally excellent, but some obvious flaws in a few episodes.

All other releases are identical to Carlton.
