Extras

The first DVDs released (in Japan and the US) were weak in extras. Then Carlton in the UK produced a superb and extensive set of extras. These include text features on characters, actors and crew, a merchandise guide, interesting photo galleries, pre-production art and storyboards, deleted script pages, behind the scenes SFX documentaries, the Lyons Maid ice lolly advert and vintage promotional interviews and trailers. Most of these extras also appear on subsequent releases (including the last two US volumes and bonus disc).

Several have added interesting extras of their own. In France, TF1's amazing bonus disc includes the short Message From Moonbase Alpha, a good interview with Martin Landau, an episode of UFO and a narrated slideshow describing the history of the show. Also in France, PVB's versions of the movies featured unusually detailed production notes, publicity and merchandising, and exclusive trailers. In Germany, the original German opening and closing titles are included.

In the US, the bonus disc includes three remastered episodes with audio commentaries by Sylvia Anderson, Johnny Byrne and Christopher Penfold, and Message From Moonbase Alpha. The superb Italian editions contain exclusive interviews with Byrne, Penfold and Hancock, text commentaries, and interesting text/photo features including Italian merchandise guide and blooper guide.

A&E DVDs (USA): Photo gallery: about 20 stills per disc. Most of the extras appear on the last two sets. Very impressive bonus disc with .	Carlton DVDs (UK) (and Magna Pacific DVDs (Australia)): Three features (over 30 pages) per disc: photo galleries, merchandise guides, series guides.	TF1 DVDs (France): All the extras are on one disc. Includes almost all the extras from Carlton, plus Message From Moonbase Alpha, an episode of UFO, an interview with Martin Landau etc.
Pioneer DVDs (Japan): Alien Guide: 4 pages per disc, small photos and text.	Producciones JRB (Spain): Adapted from Carlton, with new menus.	Pulp Video DVDs (Italy): Extras adapted from Carlton, plus text commentaries, Italian merchandise guide, bloopers text guide, Johnny Byrne interview, etc.
PVB DVDs (France): production notes, publicity material and trailers, merchandise guide.	EMS DVDs (Germany): many extras are text-based. Auto-advancing photo galleries.
