The Production GuideThe shooting schedule was published on Friday 20th September 1974, for a 10 day shoot starting Tuesday 24th September, plus an additional day for the second unit.
The main unit would film outside on one day only- Friday 27th. Five days would be spent on studio sets, mostly the cave, which was recycled from the ice cave in Death's Other Dominion. The second unit would film additional shots outside on the studio lot for the sequence when Alan is trapped in the pit on the 8th October.
Nothing ever goes to plan. At first, things seemed to be going better than planned. They finished the Main Mission scenes ahead of schedule, on day 2, and then completed the Medical scenes on day 3. The single day of exterior filming, on Friday 27th, fell victim to the weather. Most of the morning was rain and light rain, then periods of heavy rain around 2pm to 3pm, followed by more rain. The shooting schedule suggested "weather cover" for the Friday, but they had already done the Medical scenes.
They managed a few shots when the rain stopped, but otherwise the entire cast and crew had little they could do. Monday 30th was better, some cloud with clear intervals, and mist rising from the damp forest floor making the shots more atmospheric.
The cave shots extended an extra day, so the second unit last day was moved to 10th October (Nick Tate was required for the first day of End of Eternity).
