Script To Screen: The Taybor

Script To Screen

Friday 23rd April 1976 had a bunch of short scenes in different sets. We can see from the on-set times when they planned to start at least the initial scenes.

The Taybor

First, at 8:30am, is a short corridor scene, with Koenig on the communications post screen, watched by two Alphans (one is Micky Clarke). Tony walks past.

The Taybor The Taybor

Second, at 9:30am, the perfume scene in Helena'a quarters. Left to right, cameraman Neil Binney, continuity Gladys Goldsmith, director Bob Brooks, director of photography Frank Watts. Behind Landau and Bain, (striped tank top) 2nd assistant director John Downes, Barbara Bain's stand-in Suzanne Heimer, 3rd assistant director Gerry Toomey and Landau's stand-in Bill Westley

The Taybor

Next, at 10:30am, there is a short scene in the Weapons Section when one of Taybor's objects appears. The stunned Alphan is stuntman Leslie Crawford. The seated Alphan is Paul Kirby.

The Taybor

At midday they would film the Modelling Room scene, where Helena creates a replica Maya for Taybor. This would be several split-screen shots, with Goddard and Catherine Schell on one side, then again with Catherine Schell and Helena on the other side. The scene had originally been scripted to be in Helena's quarters. This is a technically difficult sequence, and was carried over to the following day, Monday 26th April.

The Taybor

Next, a very short scene in the Survey Equipment Room, with a subjective camera over the boxes before Koenig picks up the limpet.

The Taybor

Finally, the dinner for Taybor with Koenig, Helena, Maya and Tony. Maya's transformed hand was a gorilla hand at this stage; later it would be a lizard hand. They didn't start filming this sequence at all; it was started at 10am on Monday 26th April, and finished on Tuesday 27th.
