These are the SFX scenes for the hook, before the series titles.
Scene 3 Stock. Establish Moonbase Alpha
As described in script, but only in one version of the storyboards, and omitted from the episode.
Scene 7
Stars + moving small satellite
Billions of specks of light. One speck moves towards camera.
In script, and in the episode, this appears on the Big Screen. The editor uses it in several cuts.
Scene 8
Voyager L-R Diag
The approaching light - becomes a spacecraft
This would have been our first view of Voyager, but the editor removes this shot. We don't see it until later (scene 13)
Scene 13
Script: CAMERA ZOOMS into close shot of Voyager.
Storyboard: C/S Voyager
This shot of Voyager is moved later (we don't clearly see Voyager this early). In the script this shot appears before the Eagles are affected; on screen it is after, just before the titles. The direction is changed- it is left to right.
Scene 13a
Script: On the nose we see the drawn outline shapes of a man and a woman, symbols of the form of life on Earth.
Storyboard: Close up Voyager Man + Woman Symbols
The script specified a plaque, like the on the 1972/1973 Pioneer 10 and 11, drawn by Linda Sagan. It included a line drawing of a naked man and woman. The nudity was criticised in the US, and it is likely the Space: 1999 version would have been either indistinct or clothed. The actual Voyager space missions included the so-called Golden Records, which contained music, sounds and 116 images. There is a small bronze panel on the side of the Voyager model, but a larger scale section would have been built for this shot. It was cut from the episode.
Scene 15
Eagles start to vibrate in space
This is the glass shot showing the Eagle pilot (shown in two sections). The Eagles are not vibrating at this point (both shots are moved up, just after scene 4 and then scene 6, replacing scene 7).
Scene 19
Eagles vibrating. Rear Eagle turns out of shot.
Two Eagles vibrating in space - Eagle One turning back with difficulty
Three somewhat different storyboards, cut from the episode.
Scene 21
F/G Eagle turns left. Other Eagle heads towds Voyager
Eagle One turning back, Eagle Two still heading towards Voyager
Slightly different compositions, and the final shot is different again.
Scene 24 Eagle Two explodes
Eagle 2 explodes bang
The jump cut is from the glass shot from scene 15.
Only now, at the end of the opening sequence just before the titles, does the editor add scene 15, showing the Voyager.
