International Space: 1999 Alliance

The fan club grew out of the original "National Save:1999 Campaign", a fan writing campaign to persuade US networks to renew Space: 1999 for a third series. This led to the first convention in 1978. The club was renamed the "National Save: 1999 Alliance" by the members of the convention committee, Ted Hruschak, Mona Delitsky and Jeff Jones.

The newsletter, first published in September 1978, was titled Main Computer and was bimonthly, later becoming quarterly (from 1987). The club year always ran from September into the following year.

After the 1978 convention, some of the committee split to form a separate club (The Space: 1999 Society), with the ambition of running a 1979 convention in New York (the Alliance decided on Pittsburgh) (see MC 1/4 for the Jeff Jones version; see The Space: 1999 Society for their version).

After the convention, president Jeff Jones stepped down, to be replaced by Mare Fitzgerald. In December 1979 (see MC 2/2) the club was renamed The International Space: 1999 Alliance. In 1980, the Van Kamps became presidents, with Rose Badgett running it from 1985 to 1993.

The club ran 15 conventions in total (normally under the "Spacecon" name) from 1978 to the last, Spacecon XV in Portland, OR in 2003.

In 1978, the club had 1800 members. By 1981 there were just over 300 members; by 1984 just 194.

The club sold merchandise including photos, calendars (see below), fabric patches and fanzines. See the 1987 sales catalogue
